This study utilized single cell RNA-sequencing (scRNA-seq) to assess gene expression changes during the disease progression from normal to pre-leukemic to overt leukemia in the conditional knock-in mouse model. This systematic review focuses on the clinical features, physical examination findings, outcomes, and underlying pathology of acute telogen effluvium (TE), a type of diffuse hair loss, occurring in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) recovered patients. MEDLINE/PubMed and Embase databases were queried till October 2021 to identify studies reporting acute TE occurring after COVID-19 recovery. Inversion of chromosome 16 is a consistent finding in patients with acute myeloid leukemia subtype M4 with eosinophilia, which generates a CBFB-MYH11 fusion gene. It is generally considered that CBFβ-SMMHC, the fusion protein encoded by CBFB-MYH11, is a dominant negative repressor of RUNX1. Inversion of chromosome 16 (inv(16)) generates a fusion gene CBFB-MYH11, which is a driver mutation for acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Gene expression profiling suggests that Gata2, a hematopoietic transcription factor, is a top upregulated gene in preleukemic Cbfb-MYH11 knockin mice and is expressed in human inv(16) AML. On the other hand, we have also identified recurrent monoallelic deletions of GATA2 in relapsed human CBF-AML patients.

We examined social and physical violence experienced by American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) women in prostitution and their impacts on the mental and physical health of 105 women (81% Anishinaabe, mean age = 35 years) recruited through service agencies in three Minnesota cities. In childhood, abuse, foster care, arrests, and prostitution were typical. Homelessness, rape, assault, racism, and pimping were common.

Iron is an essential nutrient for sustaining bacterial growth; however, little is known about the molecular mechanisms that govern gene expression during the homeostatic response to iron availability. In this study we analyzed the global transcriptional response of Enterococcus faecalis to a non-toxic iron excess in order to identify the set of genes that respond to an increment of intracellular iron. Our results showed an up-regulation of transcriptional regulators of the Fur family (PerR and ZurR), the cation efflux family (CzcD) and ferredoxin, while proton-dependent Mn/Fe (MntH) transporters and the universal stress protein (UspA) were down-regulated.

Epidemiological studies have shown the effect of nutritional status of tocopherols and development of cardiovascular diseases that now are more frequent during early years of life. In this work we evaluated the association between the total cholesterol and serum levels of tocopherols in a population of Mexican children in whom we measured the oxidant status and antioxidant capacity (December 2003). In 1155 children (12-59 months) residents of urban and rural locations we quantified in serum alpha-tocopherol, gamma-tocopherol and total cholesterol; the antioxidant capacity and oxidative status were evaluated with the production of TBARS.

Background: Studies in platelet of 5-HT uptake transporters have been performed using binding assay methodology designed for ligand-receptor interactions; however, uptake transporters present requirements that may question the validity of these particular binding assays.

Methods: To explore methodologic aspects that may be crucial to the validity of these assays, we studied the binding of [3H]-paroxetine to platelet membranes of healthy subjects under different conditions of time, temperature, and protein concentrations.

Results: A correlation between protein concentration in incubation media and percentage of specific binding of [3H]-paroxetine was found: the lower the protein concentrations (10 and 20 microg/mL) in incubation media, the lower the percentage of specific [3H]-paroxetine binding.
