Core fucosylation catalyzed by FUT8 refers to adding the fucosyl moiety to the innermost GlcNAc residue of N-linked oligosaccharides and is involved in many biological processes such as cell differentiation, migration, and signaling transduction. Aberrant core fucosylation is associated with a variety of diseases including cardiovascular disease, tumors and neuroinflammation, but much less is understood in liver fibrosis.

A 16-nm-L p-type Gate-all-around (GAA) silicon nanowire (Si NW) metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET) was fabricated based on the mainstream bulk fin field-effect transistor (FinFET) technology. The temperature dependence of electrical characteristics for normal MOSFET as well as the quantum transport at cryogenic has been investigated systematically. We demonstrate a good gate-control ability and body effect immunity at cryogenic for the GAA Si NW MOSFETs and observe the transport of two-fold degenerate hole sub-bands in the nanowire (110) channel direction sub-band structure experimentally.

Enzyme thermostabilization is considered a critical and often obligatory step in biosynthesis, because thermostability is a significant property of enzymes that can be used to evaluate their feasibility for industrial applications. However, conventional strategies for thermostabilizing enzymes generally introduce non-covalent interactions and/or natural covalent bonds caused by natural amino acid substitutions, and the trade-off between the activity and stability of enzymes remains a challenge. Biotechnologies integrated with chemical techniques are promising in treating the soils contaminated by petroleum hydrocarbons. Experiments by applying the degrading consortium and the modified Fenton (MF) with the chelator sodium citrate simultaneously were carried out to investigate the effects of the MF reagents on the degradation of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPHs), changes in enzyme activities and the succession of microbial communities at the 0, 20, 100 and 500 mmol/kg hydrogen peroxide concentration levels. Aerobic fermentation is a sustainable option for livestock waste treatment, but little is known about the microbial mechanism that allows oxytetracycline (OTC) and copper (Cu) to affect nitrogen metabolism during aerobic fermentation. In this study, contamination with OTC and Cu alone or in combination reduced the total nitrogen (TN) content of the fermentation products. Metagenomic analysis demonstrated that the contribution of microorganisms to nitrogen metabolism changed significantly in different stages of fermentation.

The present study compared the effects of adding shrimp shell powder (SSP) at four levels comprising 0% (CK), 5% (L), 10% (M), and 15% (H) on the abundance of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and the bacterial community succession during swine manure composting. The relative abundances of 5/11 ARGs were reduced in CK, and 7/11 in H. Moreover, the removal rate was enhanced by adding SSP.

In this study, functional microbial sequencing, quantitative PCR, and phylogenetic investigation of communities by reconstruction of unobserved states (PICRUSt) were employed to understand the microbial mechanisms related to the effects of bamboo charcoal (BC) and bamboo vinegar (BV) on the degradation of organic matter (OM) and methane (CH) emissions during composting. BC + BV resulted in the highest degradation of OM. BV was most effective treatment in controlling CH emissions and it significantly reduced the abundance of the mcrA gene.

There is an increasing interest in substituting current packaging films with biologically-derived films without compromising mechanical properties and hydrophobicity. In this work, the esterified galactomannan (E-GM) films with good hydrophobicity, excellent oxygen barrier performance and high tensile mechanical strength were synthesized using anhydride esterification method prior to film formation. The hydrophobicity, mechanical properties, barrier properties, thermal stability and ultraviolet absorption of the prepared films were determined to fully investigate the features of galactomannan-based films.

This study assessed the effects of superphosphate (SPP) and phosphogypsum (PPG) on the bacterial and fungal community succession and molecular ecological networks during composting. Adding SPP and PPG had positive effects on the bacterial richness and diversity, negative effects on the fungal richness and diversity.
