Purpose: The study aims to analyze alterations in dynamic functional connectivity density (dFCD) and effective connectivity (dEC) patterns using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), hypothesizing that overactive bladder (OAB) patients will exhibit distinct dFCD and dEC patterns, reflecting altered neural communication underlying the OAB.

Methods: Forty-three female OAB patients and 40 female healthy controls (HC) underwent resting-state fMRI. Sliding window correlation was used to calculate the variability of the dFCD.

Near-infrared photosensitizers are valuable tools to improve treatment depth in photodynamic therapy (PDT). However, their low singlet oxygen (O) generation ability, indicated by low O quantum yield, presents a formidable challenge for PDT. To overcome this challenge, the heptamethine cyanine was decorated with biocompatible S (Scy7) and Se (Secy7) atom.

Purpose: Ectopic parathyroid carcinoma (EPC) is a rare clinical entity with multiple diagnostic pitfalls, making surgical cures challenging. We assessed the clinicopathological spectrum and outcome of EPCs.

Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, 24 EPCs were identified from 133 PC patients treated at a tertiary referral center.

Fluorescence-image guided surgery (FGS) can intraoperatively provide real-time visualization of a tumor incisal edge and high-resolution identification of tumor foci to improve treatment outcomes. In this contribution, we report a fluorescent probe NB-TAM based on intramolecularly folded photoinduced electron transfer (PET), which displayed a prominent turn-on response in the near-infrared (NIR) window upon specific interaction with the estrogen receptor (ER). Significantly, NB-TAM could delineate a clear tumor incisal edge (tumor-to-normal tissue ratio > 5) in a 70-min time window, and was successfully used to guide the facile and precise resection of ER+ breast tumors in mice.

Background: Distant metastatic parathyroid carcinoma (DM-PC) is a rare but often lethal entity with limited data about prognostic indicators. We sought to investigate the risk factors, patterns, and outcomes of DM-PC.

Methods: In this observational cohort study, 126 patients who underwent surgery for PC at a tertiary referral center from 2010 to 2023 were enrolled, among whom 38 had DMs.

Recent evidence reveals hyper T follicular helper (Tfh) cell responses in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE); however, molecular mechanisms responsible for hyper Tfh cell responses and whether they cause SLE are unclear. We found that SLE patients downregulated both ubiquitin ligases, casitas B-lineage lymphoma (CBL) and CBLB (CBLs), in CD4 T cells. T cell-specific CBLs-deficient mice developed hyper Tfh cell responses and SLE, whereas blockade of Tfh cell development in the mutant mice was sufficient to prevent SLE.

Background: Sensitive skin is hypersensitive to various external stimuli and a defective epidermal permeability barrier is an important clinical feature of sensitive skin. Claudin-5 (CLDN5) expression levels decrease in sensitive skin. This study aimed to explore the impact of CLDN5 deficiency on the permeability barrier in sensitive skin and the regulatory role of miRNAs in CLDN5 expression.

Article Synopsis
  • CARMIL1 is a protein that plays a crucial role in forming actin networks and regulating cellular functions, particularly in liver cancer, where its effects on cell proliferation are being studied.
  • Research indicates CARMIL1 promotes liver cancer cell growth by influencing key signaling pathways like ERK and mTOR, and its downregulation can affect their activity.
  • The study found that inhibiting CARMIL1 increases liver cancer cells' sensitivity to the chemotherapy drug sorafenib, suggesting a potential treatment strategy that combines CARMIL1 suppression with sorafenib for better tumor control.

Article Synopsis
  • A 35-year-old woman developed a rash with symptoms similar to rosacea, including red papules and plaques on her face, lasting for a year.
  • A biopsy showed significant inflammation with a high number of CD4+ T cells, leading to a diagnosis of Jessner's Lymphocytic Infiltration of the Skin (JLIS).
  • The patient was treated with oral Minocycline, which cleared the rash within two months, and there has been no recurrence for the past 5 years.

Objective: To investigate the life, sleep quality and anxiety of rosacea patients in Yunnan and the improvement of these aspects after treatment.

Methods: A total of 141 patients with rosacea and 123 healthy controls were included in our study. The quality of life, sleep quality and anxiety of patients with rosacea and healthy controls were investigated by the Rosacea Severity Scores (RSSs), the Medical Outcomes Study 36-item short-form health survey (SF-36), the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS).

Aim: To explore the potential role of microRNA miR-221-5p on the angiopoietin-1 (Ang-1)/Ang-2/Tie-2 signaling axis after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) in a rat model.

Methods: Aspects of the rat's behavior were measured using the Kaoutzanis scoring system to test neurological responses. This included feeding behavior, body contraction, motor, and eye-opening responses.

Introduction: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a heterogeneous autoimmune disease. Anti-B-cell-activating factor (BAFF) therapy effectively depletes B cells and reduces SLE disease activity. This research aimed to evaluate the effect of BAFF blockade on B cell receptor (BCR) repertoire and gene expression.

Article Synopsis
  • Intestinal infectious diseases (IIDs) pose a major public health challenge in China, with varying incidence rates influenced by regional differences and socio-environmental factors, which this study aims to explore from 2006 to 2017.
  • The research utilized data from the China Center for Disease Control and Prevention, employing advanced mapping and statistical models to analyze the spatio-temporal distribution of IIDs and their associations with socioeconomic and meteorological variables.
  • Findings revealed a decrease in most IIDs, but with stark regional variations; factors like access to sanitary toilets and urbanization influenced disease risks differently, while humidity generally increased the occurrence of IIDs except for amoebic dysentery.
