Purpose: The study reports the results of a histological and ultrastructural examination of the corneal button, obtained during penetrating keratoplasty from patient with clinically recognized macular corneal dystrophy.
Material And Methods: 34-year-old male patient suffering from macular corneal dystrophy (MCD) has been treated on corneal epithelium defect and photophobia since his early childhood. Visual acuity was decreased on the Snellen test chart to 0.
Unlabelled: The aim of the study was an evaluation of viability and damage of biological cells sterilized with antibiotics and cryopreserved a year after the implantation. Sheep antibiotic sterilised and cryopreserved biological valves were implanted in tricuspid position in young sheeps for one-year period. After this time the valves removed and studied morphologically.

Other osseous dysplasias as well as renal, hepatic and pancreatic failure may coexist with Jeune's syndrome. About one hundred cases of the syndrome were reported till now.

The animals from the two experimental groups were exposed to a rectangular magnetic field waveform at a frequency of 10 Hz and induction of 1.8-3.

The criteria of hypotrophy were established: the duration of gestation above 36 weeks, the birth-weight was less than 2500 g. The control group included 8 afterbirth samples from physiological full-term pregnancies.

A key component in the development of ischemic functional and structural myocardial injury during cardiosurgical procedures is an inadequate cellular energy supply which occurs as a consequence of the cessation of oxidative metabolism. In such conditions high energy phosphates are rapidly depleted. As they play a critical role in the maintenance of cell viability and postischemic recovery of contractile function, their conservation is therefore a primary objective in any procedure designed to reduce ischemic injury.

Microanalytical studies were made using X-ray JEOL JSM 35 microprobe analyser. The chemical composition of laryngeal precancerous tissue taken from the patients and a control group was estimated.

White blood cell count, cytoenzymology (acid and alkaline phosphatase, beta-glucuronidase and myeloperoxidase of granulocytes) and ultrastructure of granulocytes and NBT reduction test were performed in peripheral blood obtained from cokery plant workers. All the subjects were divided into groups according to degree of exposure to BaP. Occupational exposure to many factors during coke production, especially to high concentration of BaP cause perceptible changes of NBT reduction test in the group more exposed workers.

Transmission electron microscopy was used to determine the mean thickness of the glycocalyx layer covering the microvilli, the mean length and width of microvilli, and the number of microvilli per 1 micron length of enterocyte surface. The structure of the glycocalyx was found to be intact, but in some children with treated celiac disease the layer of glycocalyx was either thin or absent on the surface of individual cell microvilli.

Slight differences were noted in glycolayx structure between both groups of children. In children with coeliac disease its reduction was noted (after gluten challenge).

Attention is also focused on how peroxisomes are involved in human pathology and the so-called peroxisomal diseases are described.

The application of the Timm sulphide silver method for the demonstration of lead ions in peripheral blood cells is investigated, using male white adult Wistar rats treated with a single dose of lead acetate, range 150 mg/kg b.w. To improve the Timm reaction for electron microscopy, fixation of whole cells with glutaraldehyde fixative solution saturated with H2S, an agarose embedding and physical development of thick sections without prior cryostat sectioning are presented.

In the group with hyperthyroidism the total leucocyte count and the absolute count of neutrophils in peripheral blood were lower than in controls. In the group hypothyroidism the absolute count of monocytes was higher than in controls.
