Gastroscopy in patients with hiatal hernia with and without gastroesophageal mucosal prolapse.

Unlabelled: There are still many doubts in the literature regarding gastroesophageal mucosal prolapse (GEMP) and its clinical course. We still do not know what determines mucosal wedging in esophagogastric junction, and what is the role of the anatomy of that site. To investigate that problem we performed 120 upper digestive tract endoscopies in which a hiatal hernia was diagnosed.

[A patient with desquamative interstitial pneumonia as a rare case of idiopathic interstitial pneumonia].

The idiopathic interstitial pneumonias are a heterogeneous group of diseases that have similar clinical symptoms. The new classification is based mainly on differences in histologic patterns, however high-resolution computed tomography is a significant tool that helps in making a firm diagnosis. Desquamative interstitial pneumonia is relatively rare form idiopathic interstitial pneumonia.

[The relationship between cigarette smoking and some types of idiopathic interstitial pneumonias].

Desquamative interstitial pneumonia (DIP), respiratory bronchiolitis-associated interstitial lung disease (RB-ILD) and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) are the interstitial lung diseases of unknown etiology. Among patients with these disorders there is a prevalence of current or ex-smokers: over 90% in RB-ILD, 60-90% in DIP and 41-83% in IPF. Thus, cigarette smoking is to be a risk factor of a great significance.

[Nasal provocation tests in the diagnosis of allergic rhinitis].

Allergic rhinitis is a frequent immunological disease affecting about 10-25% of the total population. The pathogenesis of allergic rhinitis is presumed to involve an IgE-mediated mechanism. Careful patient history, together with the skin prick test or RAST, usually allows an easy diagnosis of allergic rhinitis.

[Range of the normal values for induced sputum cells in Silesian population].

Background: The induced sputum is used in the diagnosis of chronic airways diseases. Up to now there has not been performed studies in Poland describing the distribution of cells in sputum. The aim of the study was to work out the range of normal values for cells in sputum, based on a group of healthy Polish people living in Silesia region.
