Objective: Carbon dioxide (CO) angiography has emerged as a viable alternative to regular iodinated contrast medium (ICM) for guiding endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) procedures. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and safety of a standardised EVAR procedure using only CO angiography.
Methods: A prospective, multicentre, national study enrolled consecutive patients between January 2023 and January 2024 with asymptomatic abdominal aortic aneurysms measuring ≥ 55 mm and for whom a standard endovascular graft (instructions for use) was anatomically feasible.
Sea cucumbers are deposit feeding members of marine benthic communities. The over-exploitation of sea cucumber natural stocks, especially in the Mediterranean basin, is having negative impacts on the marine ecosystem. This concerns had led the Italian government to take legal actions to preserve these important marine resources.

Technique: The technique is demonstrated in an 80-year-old woman who underwent branched endograft repair of a symptomatic 6-cm type II TAAA. The t-Branch thoracoabdominal stent graft was positioned without difficulty.
Background: The heparin-bonded expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (He-ePTFE) conduit is an option for patients requiring infrainguinal revascularization (iIR), but the risk of failure may be unpredictable, especially in cases with poor run-off. Intraoperative transit-time flow (TTF) provides an automated and quantitative analysis of flow and may serve as an adjunct evaluation during surgical revascularization. The aim of this study was to assess TTF in patients undergoing iIR with He-PTFE at 3 referral hospitals and to establish a predictive flow threshold for graft occlusion.

The aim of this study is to identify intraoperative variables affecting in-hospital mortality after open repair and develop a novel prognostic risk score. (2) Methods: The analysis of a retrospectively maintained dataset identified patients who underwent open repair for rAAA from January 2007 to October 2023 in three Italian tertiary referral centers.

In addition to sea urchins, sea cucumbers have recently been implemented in embryotoxicity bioassays showing high potential in ecotoxicological studies. However, the use of this species is still hindered by a lack of knowledge regarding their comparative responsiveness.

Inside operating farms, high bivalve densities in relatively confined areas result in an elevated rate of organic sinking to the seabed, which may cause a localized impact in the immediate surrounding. Deposit-feeding sea cucumbers are potentially optimal candidates to bioremediate mussel organic waste, due to their ability to process organic-enriched sediments impacted by aquaculture waste.

Methods: Starting from March 2020, strict hygiene measures for protection of health care workers (HCW) and patients from COVID-19 infection were implemented, and partly lifted in July 2020. The main exposure for analysis purposes was the period in which patients were operated.
The dramatic Mass Mortality Event, MME, of Pinna nobilis populations initially detected in the western Mediterranean basin, has also spread rapidly to the central and eastern basin. Unfortunately, there is still a significant lack of information on the status and health of P. nobilis, since only a fragmentary picture of the mortality rate affecting these populations is available.

Nevertheless, no data are available on embryo toxicity assays using sea cucumbers, despite some of these species could fully meet the requirements for model test organisms. Holothuria polii is a key species in soft sediments and seagrass meadows; the aim of the present study was the standardization of a new embryo bioassay with this species, as an ecologically relevant test to evaluate the effects of environmental stressors.

Until now, no studies have focused on the influence of a gastric infection on the balance of the intestinal microbiota of birds. Surveys are designed to assess program functioning and specify areas for improvement. The purpose of this study was to assess the association of the ACGME's resident and faculty surveys with residency-program-specific performance on the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) certification exam.

. Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a rare hyperinflammatory syndrome that can be associated with inherited genetic mutations, malignancy, autoimmune disorders, and viral infections. Though the pathogenesis is not fully known, HLH is understood to be a reactive process in the setting of uncontrolled activation of macrophages, CD8+ cytotoxic lymphocytes, and other immune cells.

These forces have led to significant changes in assessment for licensure and certification. To respond to these forces, licensure and certification programs have improved the ways in which their examinations are constructed, scored, and delivered.

Objective: To facilitate the public reporting of hospital outcomes, we developed a risk-standardized measure of hospital 30-day mortality for patients admitted with exacerbation of COPD.
Design: Hierarchical logistic regression model.
Background: Variation in outcomes after percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) may reflect differences in quality of care. To date, however, we lack a methodology to monitor and improve national hospital 30-day mortality rates among patients undergoing PCI.
Methods And Results: We developed hierarchical logistic regression models to calculate hospital risk-standardized 30-day all-cause PCI mortality rates.
Aim: To evaluate feasibility, tolerability and cosmetic outcome of intra-operative radiation therapy (IORT) as an exclusive post-surgery treatment of early stage breast cancer.
Patients And Methods: From October 2008 to October 2009 30 patients underwent wide breast cancer excision or quadrantectomy followed by IORT on tumor bed with accelerated electrons at the dose of 21Gy. The characteristics of the patients were: ductal breast cancer or invasive lobular cT1, cT2 ≤ 2,5 cm, cN0, G1-2, age over 35 years, M0.
Background: Preeclampsia is a major pregnancy complication with cardiovascular manifestations. Recent studies suggest that chocolate consumption may benefit cardiovascular health.
Methods: We studied the association of chocolate consumption with risk of preeclampsia in a prospective cohort study of 2291 pregnant women who delivered a singleton livebirth between September 1996 and January 2000.
Background: Quality measurement and improvement in practice are requirements for Maintenance of Certification by the American Board of Medical Specialties boards and a component of many pay for performance programs.
Objective: To describe the development of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Practice Improvement Module (PIM) and the average performance of ABIM diplomates who have completed the Preventive Cardiology PIM.
Design: Observational study of self-administered practice quality improvement.

B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia has a highly variable clinical course with behavior ranging from indolent to aggressive. Identified prognostic markers include IgV(H) mutational status, and CD38 and ZAP-70 expression. In several studies, ZAP-70 expression correlated with IgV(H) mutational status, and predicted disease progression and overall survival.

Methods: Pregnant women were recruited from 56 obstetric practices and 15 clinics associated with six hospitals in Connecticut and Massachusetts between September 1996 and January 2000; 3633 women were enrolled. Maternal urine throughout pregnancy and umbilical cord blood samples were analyzed for caffeine, paraxanthine, theophylline, and theobromine.
