The acromioclavicular joint (ACJ) is commonly injured due to a force to the lateral aspect of the shoulder with the arm in adduction resulting in vertical or multidirectional instability. However, in this case report, we present a rare case of an athlete with isolated horizontal ACJ instability, which was treated surgically using a hamstring allograft. Letters of Recommendation (LORs) are widely utilized for admission to both undergraduate and graduate programs, and are becoming even more important with the decreasing role that standardized tests play in the admissions process. However, LORs are highly subjective and thus can inject recommender bias into the process, leading to an inequitable evaluation of the candidates' competitiveness and competence. Our study utilizes natural language processing methods and manually determined ratings to investigate gender and cultural differences and biases in LORs written for STEM Master's program applicants.

The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of dipyridamole, an indirect adenosine 2A receptors (AR), on the osseointegration of titanium implants in a large, translational pre-clinical model. Sixty tapered, acid-etched titanium implants, treated with four different coatings ((i) Type I Bovine Collagen (control), (ii) 10 μM dipyridamole (DIPY), (iii) 100 μM DIPY, and (iv) 1000 μM DIPY), were inserted in the vertebral bodies of 15 female sheep (weight ~65 kg). Qualitative and quantitative analysis were performed after 3, 6, and 12 weeks in vivo to assess histological features, and percentages of bone-to-implant contact (%BIC) and bone area fraction occupancy (%BAFO).

We characterized the distribution and diversity of antimicrobial-resistance Salmonella enterica isolated from a poultry production chain in Minas Gerais, Brazil, with special attention to ciprofloxacin and multidrug resistance (MDR). In this work we use the two-temperature model (TTM) coupled to molecular dynamics (MD) with sinks at the boundaries of the electronic subsystem to study crystal-growth rate in a quasi-one-dimensional tungsten crystal into a supercooled melt. The possibility of varying the extension of the electronic grid along with the sinks allows a more realistic description of the electronic thermal transport away from the system, providing a considerable heat dissipation from the crystallization front. Based on this approach, our results regarding crystal-growth rates are not affected even if the size of the system is changed.

We re-adapt a spectral renormalization method, introduced in nonlinear optics, to solve the Kohn-Sham (KS) equations of density functional theory, with a focus on functionals based on the strictly-correlated electrons (SCE) regime, which are particularly challenging to converge. Important aspects of the method are: (i) the eigenvalues and the density are computed simultaneously; (ii) it converges using randomized initial guesses; (iii) easy to implement. Using this method we could converge for the first time the Kohn-Sham equations with functionals that include the next leading term in the strong-interaction limit of density functional theory, the so called zero-point energy (ZPE) functional as well as with an interaction-strength-interpolation functional that includes both the exact SCE and ZPE terms.
