Establishing Absolute Lymphocyte Count Thresholds for Further Review of Peripheral Blood Lymphocytosis to Judiciously Screen for Monoclonal B-Cell Populations in Older Adults.

Objectives: Lymphocytosis may represent either a lymphoproliferative disorder (LPD) or a reactive process. The absolute lymphocyte count (ALC) threshold for further evaluation of lymphocytosis is not well established.

Application of the AJCC 7th edition carcinoma of the eyelid staging system: a medical center pathology based, 15-year review.

Context: The purpose of this study was to conduct a quality improvement (QI), applied practical review of the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) 7th edition, Carcinoma of the Eyelid staging system. AJCC utilizes a primary tumor, lymph node, metastasis (pTNM) cancer staging approach.

Objective: We wanted to determine if the AJCC pTNM carcinoma staging system identified patients with highly aggressive carcinoma of the eyelid.

Introduction of the 7th edition eyelid carcinoma classification system from the American Joint Committee on Cancer-International Union Against Cancer staging manual.

Context: The American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) and the International Union Against Cancer commissioned the Ophthalmic Oncology Task Force to modify and update the ophthalmic chapters of the 7th edition of the AJCC Cancer Staging Manual.

Objective: To review the existing eyelid carcinoma chapter in the 6th edition of the AJCC Cancer Staging Manual for its clinical and research utility and to seek evidence-based revisions with the strongest medical foundation to use in updating the anatomically based TNM cancer staging system manual.

Data Sources: The 4-year Ophthalmic Oncology Task Force consisted of 45 tumor specialists from 10 countries and an extensive internal and external peer review process.

Breast papillomas in the era of percutaneous needle biopsy.

Background: The significance of breast papillomas detected on core needle biopsy (CNB) remains unclear. While those associated with malignancy or atypia are excised, no clear solution exists for benign papillomas. We sought to determine the indication for surgical excision, incidence of malignancy, significance, and natural history.

Papular spongiotic dermatitis of smallpox vaccination: report of 2 cases with review of the literature.

We report 2 cases of nonspecific postvaccinial dermatitis following smallpox vaccination. The patients presented with diffuse, pruritic, erythematous macules and papules 11 days (case 1) and 7 days (case 2) following routine smallpox vaccination. Biopsies of the lesions demonstrated spongiotic dermatitis without evidence of viral cytopathic changes.

Expression of nm23 antimetastatic gene product in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.

The nm23 gene has been implicated as a suppressor gene involved in the control of the metastatic process of malignant cells. Reduced levels of nm23 gene product have been found in tumor cells with high metastatic potential such as several types of rodent tumors and human breast, colorectal, and lung carcinoma. This pilot study examines the expression of the nm23 gene product compared with nodal status in 70 consecutive patients with squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck.
