The restrictive measures implemented to stem the spread of COVID-19 abruptly changed the lives of many cats and their owners. This study explored whether the lockdown in Italy affected the cat-owner relationship, as well as cat behaviour and welfare. A survey that included questions on owner and cat's demographics, living environment, cat behaviour and a modified version of the Cat/Dog Relationship Scale (C/DORS) was distributed online during the lockdown and was completed by 548 cat owners, mainly women (81.

However, to determine the interaction between an adhesive and a surface of a heterogeneous material, such as a red ceramic, it is essential to define other roughness parameters. This work proposes a method for determining the roughness of red ceramic blocks from a three-dimensional evaluation, with the objective of estimating the contact area that the ceramic substrate can provide for a cementitious matrix.

Our aim is to examine the normalization time of CD serology in a large pediatric population, and its predictors.
Material And Methods: We retrospectively evaluated the normalization time of TGA-IgA and its predictive factors (age, sex, ethnicity, symptoms, associated diabetes/thyroiditis, Marsh stage, TGA-IgA and endomysial antibody levels at diagnosis, diet adherence), in 1024 children diagnosed from 2000 to 2019 in three pediatric Italian centers, on a GFD.
Background: Autoantibodies against-phospholipase A2 receptor (PLA2R) are specific markers of idiopathic membranous nephropathy (iMN). Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) is becoming the preferred method in many laboratories for the determination of anti-PLA2R antibodies, because it provides quantitative results, and is not prone to subjective interpretation, as is the case with indirect immunofluorescence assay.
Methods: The purpose of our study was to determine the diagnostic performance of serum PLA2R antibodies detected by commercially available ELISA in a large Italian multicenter cohort of patients with biopsy-proven iMN and in patients with other renal diseases, with special focus on evaluating the optimal cut-off value to discriminate positive and negative results.
Objectives: Assessment of adherence to gluten-free diet in celiac disease (CD) is generally recommended. Few data are available about consequences of transition from the referral center to the general pediatrician (GP) once remission is achieved.
Methods: Adherence was assessed in patients referred to the GP for an annual basis follow-up, called back for re-evaluation.
Background And Aims: Chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is associated with a wide range of immunopathological manifestations, which are significantly improved by successful interferon-based treatment. There is paucity of data on the impact of interferon-free HCV clearance on immunopathological manifestations, which might be expected to disappear more frequently as compared to what reported in interferon-induced HCV-clearance. We have investigated liver autoimmune serology before and after interferon-free clearance of HCV by treatment with direct acting antiviral agents (DAA).

Hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection, an increasingly recognized cause of acute hepatitis, has been misdiagnosed as AIH due to the occurrence of autoantibodies during its acute phase. It has also been suggested that HEV infection may lead to or unmask AIH.

However antigens and replicative sequences of HBV/HCV have been also detected in different extra-hepatic tissues, including the pancreas. Although epidemiological studies and meta-analyses have recently suggested that HBV/HCV may be also risk factors for pancreatic cancer and several researches have investigated the possible mechanisms and intra-/extra-cellular paths involved in pancreatic and hepatic carcinogenesis, to date, these complex processes remain largely unexplained.

Antigens and replicative sequences of oncogenic hepatitis B (HBV) and hepatitis C (HCV) virus were detected in different extra-hepatic tissues, including pancreas.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFPancreatic adenocarcinoma (PAC) is a very aggressive and lethal cancer, with a very poor prognosis, because of absence of early symptoms, advanced stage at presentation, early metastatic dissemination and lack of both specific tests to detect its growth in the initial phases and effective systemic therapies. To date, the causes of PAC still remain largely unknown, but multiple lines of evidence from epidemiological and laboratory researches suggest that about 15-20% of all cancers are linked in some way to chronic infection, in particular it has been shown that several viruses have a role in human carcinogenesis. The purpose of this report is to discuss the hypothesis that two well-known oncogenic viruses, Human B hepatitis (HBV) and Human C hepatitis (HCV) are a possible risk factor for this cancer.

We assessed 10 human immunodeficiency virus-positive patients with Chagas' disease who presented with CTLAT. All patients had neurological involvement and 6 developed intracranial hypertension.

21 women with menopausal disorders were given veralipride, which is a benzamide derivative having a central anti-dopaminergic action. The LH, FSH and PRL plasma levels were controlled before and after treatment. Treatment, using veralipride at a daily dose of 100 mg for 20 days, improved the climacteric syndrome, and, in particular, the sudden hot flushes.
