Urinary infection is the most commonly encountered hospital infection. Antibacterial therapy promotes selection and dissemination of polyresistant microorganism strains, development of intestinal dysbacteriosis, reduction of intestinal contamination resistance. Clinical and bacteriological efficacy of urinary infection treatment with bacteriophage preparations (pyocyanic, proteus, staphylococcal, coliphage, combined pyobacteriophage) was studied.

Remote impulse lithotripsy (RIL) parameters were assessed when crushing uroliths with the use of URAT-II lithotriptor. The results were referred to the concrement size, location and physicochemical properties. A total of 365 examinations were made.

The activity of oxidant metabolism was studied in leukocytes from the whole blood of 23 patients diagnosed to have urolithiasis, chronic pyelonephritis in remission. Leukocyte function was evaluated by registration of luminol-dependent chemiluminescence. Barium sulfate microcrystals served leukocyte stimulator.

A clinical trial was made of a new gel ligenten intended for local urethral anesthesia and treatment of infection and inflammation in the lower urinary tracts. Ligenten was given to 52 patients to manage bladder, prostate, urethral infection and inflammation, for local prophylaxis before cystoscopy, urethral bouginage and transurethral surgery. Apparent advantages of intraurethral introduction of the analgetic compared to instrument lubrication are demonstrated.

The rats subjected to repeated heavy exercises (swimming with the load equal to 10% of body weight) had an increased activity of gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase in the urine. Both the percentage of the rats with hyperenzymuria and the level of enzyme were the highest after the fifth swimming. Water-soluble antioxidant (potassium fenozan) administered intraperitoneally 30 minutes before the swimming abolished the increase of enzymuria and maintained the enzyme activity to the normal level.

The authors considered an important problem of in vivo verification of urolith composition as specifying the choice of drug treatment and prevention of urolithiasis. 84 nephrolithiasis patients were allocated to 4 groups according to their concrement compositions (after spontaneous or surgical removal): 23 patients with urate calculus, 19 with oxalate, 20 with phosphate and 22 with oxalate-phosphate concrements. Polarizing microscopy, x-ray structural analysis and infrared spectrophotometry were employed for verification of calculi composition.
