Objective: The traditional histopathological analysis of endometrial cancer (EC) is the main risk group classification tool (low, intermediate, high-intermediate, and high) for the implementation of adjuvant treatment. The International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics staging system of EC has incorporated a new molecular classification that serves as a new triage tool for optimal treatment planning for these patients. Our study aimed to investigate the prognostic role of the new molecular classification in EC.

Purpose: When oncological waiting lists are prolonged, gynecological oncology units are forced to delay operations, especially for endometrial cancer (EC) due to its good prognosis among gynecological cancers. The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of delay in the oncological outcomes of these patients.

Methods: This is a retrospective analysis of all women with EC treated in our clinic, 2012-2019.

  • The study aimed to evaluate the long-term outcomes, satisfaction, and reasons for disappointment in patients with advanced pelvic organ prolapse who underwent LeFort colpocleisis (LFC).
  • Conducted between 2007 and 2021, the study included 141 patients and used surveys to assess their health and satisfaction 61.65 months after surgery.
  • Results indicated a low rate of prolapse recurrence and no regrets about sexual function loss; however, persistent urinary incontinence correlated with decreased satisfaction and regret.

Article Synopsis
  • The new molecular classification of endometrial cancer is changing how doctors manage the disease, supported by a recently updated FIGO staging system that includes molecular substages for early-stage cases.
  • A study analyzed patient records from a hospital from 2012 to 2023, focusing on stage shifts and treatment outcomes, revealing that 15.5% of patients experienced a shift in their cancer stage, mainly from earlier stages to stage IIC.
  • The 2023 FIGO staging system shows improved differentiation of early-stage endometrial cancer prognoses while demonstrating similar prognostic accuracy as the previous 2009 system.

Article Synopsis
  • * A systematic review of literature was conducted, screening over 1,000 articles and ultimately including 20 studies focusing on mammography's role in breast cancer detection during these periods.
  • * Findings indicated a 78.6% cancer detection rate from 421 mammograms performed, but emphasized that the evidence is largely retrospective and calls for more prospective studies to better evaluate mammography's effectiveness during pregnancy and lactation.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to investigate the rising cesarean section rates in Greece and implement interventions to promote vaginal delivery through a trial named ENGAGE, focusing on evidence-based practices.
  • Twenty-two maternity units across Greece will participate in a multicenter trial involving 20,000 to 25,000 births, employing a stepped-wedge design whereby units will gradually implement interventions over 8-18 months.
  • Key interventions include applying updated clinical guidelines, training on cardiotocography, and providing ongoing support to healthcare professionals, with data on cesarean rates and outcomes collected for analysis throughout the study.

maturation of oocytes (IVM) represents an assisted reproductive technique that involves the minimal or absence of ovarian stimulation and is beneficial to specific groups of patients. These may include women with polycystic ovarian syndrome and/or patients who need a fertility preservation option before undergoing gonadotoxic treatment. However, when IVM is applied in cases where it is not recommended, it can be considered as an add-on technique, as described by the ESHRE Guideline Group on Female Fertility Preservation.

BRCA mutation and homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) are the criteria for the administration of PARP inhibitor (PARPi) maintenance therapy. It is known that PARPi efficacy is related to platinum sensitivity and that the latter can be demonstrated from the CA-125 elimination rate constant (KELIM). This study aims to investigate if KELIM can be another tool in the identification of patients that could be benefit from PARPi therapy.

(1) Background: Neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by interval debulking surgery is used in the treatment of advanced ovarian cancer. However, no tool can safely predict if complete cytoreduction after 3-4 cycles can be achieved. This study aims to investigate if the KELIM score can be a triage tool in the identification of patients that will be ideal candidates for interval debulking surgery (IDS).

Objective: The genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM) is often underdiagnosed and undertreated despite its significant impact on postmenopausal quality of life. We assessed the prevalence of GSM and associated symptoms in Greek perimenopausal/postmenopausal women attending gynecology clinics.

Methods: Four hundred and fifty women, aged 40-70 years (93.

Article Synopsis
  • The genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM) includes vulvovaginal atrophy (VVA) and lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), which are prevalent in menopausal women due to shared developmental origins and estrogen receptor presence.
  • A study of 450 Greek peri- and postmenopausal women revealed that over half experienced urinary urgency or frequency, with varying degrees of severity in symptoms like dysuria.
  • Findings show a correlation between LUTS and VVA symptoms, highlighting the need for early assessment of these issues to improve the quality of life for women undergoing menopause.*

Patients with a history of endometriosis have an increased risk of developing various autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, systemic lupus erythematosus, multiple sclerosis and celiac disease. There is a potential association between endometriosis and an increased susceptibility for Sjögren's syndrome (SS). SS is a common chronic, inflammatory, systemic, autoimmune, multifactorial disease of complex pathology, with genetic, epigenetic and environmental factors contributing to the development of this condition.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines the occurrence of hidden malignant mesenchymal tumors in patients undergoing surgery for uterine fibroids, focusing on the surgical method used.
  • It involved a retrospective analysis of 803 patients from January 2011 to December 2018, highlighting that most underwent open surgery, with a notable number of laparoscopic and vaginal procedures.
  • Results showed a high prevalence of benign tumors, with some malignant cases identified, and indicated that laparoscopic myomectomy is more common among younger patients and is linked to shorter hospital stays, although the risk of unintentionally spreading malignancies exists but is low with proper preoperative evaluations.

Adenomyosis is a disease defined by histopathology, mostly of hysterectomy specimens, and classification is challenged by the disagreement of the histologic definition. With the introduction of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and two- and three-dimensional ultrasound, the diagnosis of adenomyosis became a clinical entity. In MRI and US, adenomyosis ranges from thickening of the inner myometrium or junctional zone to nodular, cystic, or diffuse lesions involving the entire uterine wall, up to a well-circumscribed adenomyoma or a polypoid adenomyoma.

: Sperm DNA fragmentation refers to any break in one or both of the strands of DNA in the head of a sperm. The most widely used methodologies for assessing sperm DNA fragmentation are the sperm chromatin structure assay (SCSA), the sperm chromatin dispersion assay (SCD), the single-cell gel electrophoresis assay (SCGE-comet), and the terminal-deoxynucleotidyl-transferase (TdT)-mediated dUTP nick end labelling (TUNEL) assay. The aim of this study was to compare the efficiency and sensitivity of the analysis of sperm DNA fragmentation using TUNEL via fluorescence microscopy, and flow cytometry.

Importance: Approximately 60% of women develop a uterine niche after a cesarean delivery (CD). A niche is associated with various gynecological symptoms including abnormal uterine bleeding, pain, and infertility, but there is little consensus in the literature on the distinction between the sonographic finding of a niche and the constellation of associated symptoms.

Objective: To achieve consensus on defining the clinical condition that constitutes a symptomatic uterine niche and agree upon diagnostic criteria and uniform nomenclature for this condition.
