Background: While there are several scales for measuring patients' outcomes after chronic ankle instability (CAI) surgery, a study comparing the predictive ability of these scores with regard to return to sports (RTS) at the preinjury level is lacking.

Purpose/hypothesis: The purpose of this study was to compare the Ankle Ligament Reconstruction-Return to Sport After Injury (ALR-RSI), American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS), and Karlsson scores in predicting 2-year RTS outcomes after arthroscopic treatment of CAI. It was hypothesized that ALR-RSI would be superior in predicting 2-year RTS outcomes after CAI surgery and that a quantifiable increase in this score would significantly improve RTS outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Ankle Ligament Reconstruction-Return to Sport Injury (ALR-RSI) scale specifically for assessing psychological readiness after a lateral ankle sprain (LAS) and to identify patients' ability to return to preinjury activity levels.
  • The study involved 64 patients who were evaluated at 2 and 4 months post-LAS; results indicated that the ALR-RSI scores were strongly correlated with other validated measurement scales.
  • The ALR-RSI demonstrated excellent test-retest reliability and was effective in predicting which patients would not return to sports by the four-month mark, solidifying its role as a valuable assessment tool for clinicians.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study compared the effectiveness of two ACL reconstruction techniques: the 4-strand semitendinosus graft (ST4-TLS) and the semitendinosus-gracilis (STG) graft regarding retear rates and recovery outcomes over two years.
  • - Results showed no significant difference in the retear rates between the two methods (6.7% for ST4-TLS vs. 5.4% for STG), indicating similar effectiveness in preventing ligament re-injury.
  • - However, the STG group demonstrated better overall symptom and activity scores at one and two years post-surgery, suggesting some advantages in recovery and functionality with the STG technique.

Background: Proximal hamstring complex injury (PHCI) is a common injury among professional athletes, particularly those participating in pivot contact sports. Previous studies have suggested that surgery can be effective in restoring function and allowing athletes to return to sport (RTS), but the factors influencing successful RTS have been less clear.

Purpose: To assess RTS capabilities after surgical treatment of PHCI in professional athletes and to identify favorable predictors of RTS.

Background: Bone-patellar tendon-bone (BTB) anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) is one of the conventional techniques in the revision setting especially after a primary hamstring tendon graft. The use of the iliotibial band (ITB) augmented with allograft (AG) is an encouraging graft alternative for ACLR in terms of clinical and biomechanical data in the literature.

Purpose: To compare the clinical outcomes of BTB graft with lateral extra-articular tenodesis, modified Lemaire (BTB-LET), and an ITB graft augmented with hamstring AG (ITB-AG) in the setting of revision ACLR.
