Background: Virtual care (VC) for dementia in primary care settings is an important aspect of healthcare delivery in Canada. However, the evidence informing optimal and sustainable provision of VC for persons living with dementia (PLWD) and their care partners is scarce. Preterm premature rupture of membranes (pPROM) stands as a primary contributor to preterm deliveries worldwide, closely linked to consequential infectious peripartum complications, including chorioamnionitis and early-onset neonatal sepsis. We develop a compact physics model for hot-carrier degradation (HCD) that is valid over a wide range of gate and drain voltages (Vgs and Vds, respectively). Special attention is paid to the contribution of secondary carriers (generated by impact ionization) to HCD, which was shown to be significant under stress conditions with low Vgs and relatively high Vds. Implementation of this contribution is based on refined modeling of carrier transport for both primary and secondary carriers.

Humans are exposed to furan, a toxicant and possible human carcinogen, through multiple sources including diet and tobacco smoke. The urinary metabolites of furan are derived from the reaction of its toxic metabolite with protein nucleophiles and are biomarkers of exposure and potential harm. An established isotopic dilution liquid-chromatography mass spectrometry method was used to measure these biomarkers in urine from users of e-cigarettes, cannabis, and/or combustible tobacco with/without reduced nicotine levels.

Introduction: In mild asthma, as-needed budesonide-formoterol offers similar protection from severe exacerbations as daily inhaled corticosteroids (ICS), with lower ICS exposure but slightly increased symptoms. We sought to develop an electronic decision aid to guide discussions about the pros and cons of these first-line options, while identifying and integrating user preferences.

Background: Polypharmacy, often defined as the concomitant use of ≥ 5 medications, has been identified as a significant global public health threat. Background: Wolbachia is an endosymbiont common to most invertebrates, which can have significant evolutionary implications for its host species by acting as a barrier to gene flow. Despite the importance of Wolbachia, still little is known about its prevalence and diversification pattern among closely related host species. The level of funding available for research and development (R&D) of diagnostics (D) and therapeutics (T) for incurable diseases varies and is not associated with the extent of their disease burden. Crowdfunding is a promising way to increase funding for R&D of D&T for underfunded incurable diseases, such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease, which has not been exploited to its full capacity. Investing into efforts to educate patients and researchers about its prospective is a worthwhile endeavor, which could lead to the generation of substantial new capital to finance the development of novel therapeutics for these diseases.

Aim: Recent evidence suggests that arterial hypertension could be alternatively explained as a physiological adaptation response to water shortage, termed aestivation, which relies on complex multi-organ metabolic adjustments to prevent dehydration. Here, we tested the hypothesis that chronic water loss across diseased skin leads to similar adaptive water conservation responses as observed in experimental renal failure or high salt diet.

Interleukin-17A- (IL-17A) and IL-17F-producing CD4 T helper cells (T17 cells) are implicated in the development of chronic inflammatory diseases, such as multiple sclerosis and its animal model, experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE). T17 cells also orchestrate leukocyte invasion of the central nervous system (CNS) and subsequent tissue damage. However, the role of IL-17A and IL-17F as effector cytokines is still confused with the encephalitogenic function of the cells that produce these cytokines, namely, T17 cells, fueling a long-standing debate in the neuroimmunology field.

The cells and mechanisms involved in blood clot resorption are only partially known. We show that regulatory T cells (Tregs) accumulate in venous blood clots and regulate thrombolysis by controlling the recruitment, differentiation and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) activity of monocytes. We describe a clot Treg population that forms the matricellular acid- and cysteine-rich protein SPARC (secreted protein acidic and rich in cysteine) and show that SPARC enhances monocyte MMP activity and that SPARC+ Tregs are crucial for blood clot resorption.

-GlcNAcylation is a reversible serine/threonine glycosylation on cytosolic and nuclear proteins that are involved in various regulatory pathways. However, the detection and quantification of -GlcNAcylation substrates have been challenging. Here, we report a highly efficient method for the identification of -GlcNAc modification via tandem glycan labeling, in which -GlcNAc is first galactosylated and then sialylated with a fluorophore-conjugated sialic acid residue, therefore enabling highly sensitive fluorescent detection.
