Sarcoidosis (SD) is a systemic granulomatous condition that is especially encountered in young adults and rarely in children, affecting predominantly the lungs and lymph nodes. We report the case of a 14-year-old teenage boy admitted to our clinic for nausea, vomiting, and weight loss. Clinical examination at the time of admission revealed malaise, pallor, and abdominal tenderness in the epigastric area at palpation.

Stem cell-based therapy for myocardial regeneration has reported several functional improvements that are attributed mostly to the paracrine effects stimulating angiogenesis and cell survival. This study was conducted to comparatively evaluate the potential of factors secreted by mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in normoxic and hypoxic conditions to promote tissue repair by sustaining endothelial cell (EC) adhesion and proliferation and conferring protection against apoptosis. To this aim, a conditioned medium (CM) was generated from MSCs after 24-h incubation in a serum-free normal or hypoxic environment.

Objectives: Here we assess the intrinsic functions of the chemokine receptor CXCR4 in remodeling after myocardial infarction (MI) using Cxcr4 heterozygous (Cxcr4(+/-)) mice.

Background: Myocardial necrosis triggers complex remodeling and inflammatory changes. The chemokine CXCL12 has been implicated in protection and therapeutic regeneration after MI through recruiting angiogenic outgrowth cells, improving neovascularization and cardiac function, but the endogenous role of its receptor CXCR4 is unknown.

Inclusive K_{S};{0}K_{S};{0} production in ep collisions at the DESY ep collider HERA was studied with the ZEUS detector using an integrated luminosity of 0.5 fb;{-1}. Enhancements in the mass spectrum were observed and are attributed to the production of f_{2}(1270)/a_{2};{0}(1320), f_{2};{'}(1525) and f_{0}(1710).

Objective: To characterize the premorbid cognitive and behavioral abilities in apparently healthy adolescents who at a later time will be diagnosed with schizophreniform disorder or schizophrenia.

Background: Clarifying the pathological relationship between subtle intellectual and behavioral abnormalities and disease could provide markers for the early prediction of future psychosis.

Method: Premorbid data on young male patients admitted to the Department of Psychiatry of the Central Military Hospital in Bucharest, Romania, between 1996 and 2002 and diagnosed with a first episode of psychosis or schizophreniform disorder were collected.

[A study of the microelements in the dental plaque].

Rev Chir Oncol Radiol O R L Oftalmol Stomatol Ser Stomatol

April 1991

In a total of 49 patients, of which 7 were controls, and the other had chronic superficial parodonthopathies, deep chronic mixed parodontopathies and gingivitis, a quantitative analysis was done of microelements from the dental plaque. Neutron activation analysis, chemical and chromatographic methods were used for evidencing the presence of Fe, Mn, Zn, Mg, Co, Ca, Na, and K ions in the dental plaque. Significant changes were noted with regard to the Fe, Zn, and Ca contents of the dental plaque in patients with deep and mixed parodonthopathies.

[Unusual aspects of a case of rhinophyma].

Rev Chir Oncol Radiol O R L Oftalmol Stomatol Otorinolaringol

November 1989

The present paper reports on a case of rhinophyma associated with pendulous fibroma, operated in the same surgical sequence, with grafting the decortication surface of the pyramid with graft of free skin taken from the arm. The clinical and histological characteristics of the case presented and the conclusions to be drawn from it are outlined, as the disease is a nosologic entity rarely met.
