: Metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is a spectrum of liver diseases linked to insulin resistance (IR), type 2 diabetes, and metabolic disorders. IR accelerates fat accumulation in the liver, worsening MAFLD. Regular physical activity and weight loss can improve liver function, reduce fat, and lower cardiovascular risk.

Article Synopsis
  • The common tern, a migratory seabird, is facing a decline in populations across Europe due to threats like habitat destruction and human interference.
  • A study analyzed the genetic structure and diversity of common terns from Northern, Southern Inland, and Southern Marine areas using genetic markers, revealing high diversity overall, but the Southern Marine group had the least.
  • The findings suggested weak population genetic structure with high gene flow, indicating that geographical distance between breeding colonies had little impact on genetic differences; the study recommends further research on migration dynamics and conservation efforts for breeding sites.

Background: In this study, we investigated the effectiveness of FreeStyle Libre Flash Glucose Monitoring (FGM) implementation in a real life clinical setting with the emphasis on the effect of initial education on the use of the FGM system.

Methods: This prospective observational study included 425 diabetes type 1 subjects followed up for 3 to 12 months (320 were followed up to 3 months, 267 up to 6 months and 147 up to period of one year). An FGM sensor was placed at study entry and all participants were educated through a period of 5 days on sensor usage and self-management of glycemia with follow up visits every 3 months.

Introduction: Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists (RAs) are recommended therapy for type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and liraglutide is the most used worldwide. We assessed the glycemic efficacy and extra-glycemic effects of liraglutide during 36 months' follow-up of individuals with poorly regulated T2DM under routine clinical practice and sought to identify the phenotype of treatment responders.

Methods: A total of 207 individuals were included.

Unlabelled: This study investigated the impact of anthropometric parameters, adiponectin, leptin, homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), beta-isomerised C-terminal telopeptide of collagen type I (β-CTX), and routine biochemical tests on one-year mortality in hip fracture patients. We found that male patients with high adiponectin, leptin, and β-CTX levels had a 5-fold increase in all-cause one-year mortality.

Introduction: Several predictors of one-year hip fracture mortality have been identified including advanced age, male sex, low bone mineral density, and preexisting comorbidities.

Neurons of the rat spinal cord were stained using the Golgi impregnation method. Successfully impregnated neurons from laminae II, III, and VI were subjected to fractal and nonfractal analyses. Fractal analysis was performed using length-related techniques.

At the University Hospital Gynecological Department in Zagreb 1666 cancers of the uterine cervix were treated in the period of 4 years [1969--1972]. Among them were only 309 carcinomas in situ, the remaining 1357 were invasive. The distribution by stages was as follows: IA--75, IB--223, II--326, III--611, IV--122.

Dynamics of immune reactivity in patients with the carcinoma of the cervix was determined. The transformation of their lymphocytes was induced in vitro by phytohemagglutinin (PHA), and the transformation index--a correlate of immunological reactivity--was determined at the following intervals: just before the start of the therapeutic procedure, at the end of the procedure, and every three months afterwards. Very low values of the transformation index, i.

Chemotherapy is routinely applied in a number of malign tumours of female genital organs, primarily in the tumours of the trophoblast and ovarian carcinoma. Its use is often in discord with the present-day konwledge, either in the choice of cytostatics and the optimal time of application or in the combination of different drugs and their dosage. A brief review is given of the basic aspects of cellular biology, of the characteristics of normal and tumour cells, and the principles underlying present-day chemotherapy.

[Pseudomyxoma peritonei].

Jugosl Ginekol Opstet

February 1977

The clinical course of 8 patients with pseudomyxoma peritonei developed from ovariah tumors and 3 from mucocoele appendicis is presented. Except in two instances, all tumors were originally benign, one of them with metastases of kystoma mucinosum to inguinal lymphnods. The treatment was basically surgical and consisted of the removal of sree and organised mucus and, naturally, of the ovarian tumor or muccocoele where possible.
