A major motif of this chemical calamity is opioid use disorder in adolescents and young adults that was stimulated by the 19th century identification of such highly addictive drugs as morphine, heroin and a non-opiate, cocaine.

Human trafficking in the child and adolescent is a global public health crisis that can be divided into sex trafficking, labor trafficking and organ trafficking. This discussion considers basic terminology in this area, sociodemographic information on these victims, negative effects or repercussions from such egregious actions forced on the victims, issues of screening for healthcare providers based on specific risk factors/indicators, and information regarding screening tools as well as management principles for healthcare professionals. These trafficked persons are seen in varied practice settings such as primary care offices, emergency departments, street medicine operations, and others.

Ovarian tumors in the pediatric population: An update.

Research reveals that 1% of neoplasms in females under 17 years of age are ovarian neoplasms and though usually benign, malignant tumors may occur in the pediatric age group. This review considers various current concepts of these tumors including the epidemiology, risk factors, clinical presentations, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, and treatment options including the need to provide fertility-sparing surgery as well as their potential impacts on the psychological well-being of children and adolescents. The purpose of this systematic review was to summarize current evidence on vertical transmission rates, maternal, perinatal and neonatal outcomes and mode of delivery in pregnancies affected by COVID-19.

Pelvic inflammatory disease in the adolescent and young adult: An update.

Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is an infection of the female upper genital tract that is typically polymicrobial with classic core involvement of Neisseria gonorrhoeae and/or Chlamydia trachomatis, though other endogenous flora from the vagino-cervical areas can be involved as well. Quality Assurance in Tactical Combat Casualty Care for Medical Personnel Training 16 April 2020.

At present, however, there is no systematic, comprehensive quality assurance program for TCCC training throughout the DoD. Individual courses and instructors may or may not use all of the materials in the JTS-approved curriculum; they may or may not add content that is not part of the JTS curriculum; and they may or may not add additional training in the form of advanced simulation, hands-on training with moulaged casualties, graded trauma lanes, or live-tissue training. The current paper is the most comprehensive review of limb tourniquets employable in the tactical combat casualty care environment and provides the first update to the CoTCCC-recommended limb tourniquets since 2005. This review also highlights the lack of unbiased data, official reporting mechanisms, and official studies with established criteria for evaluating tourniquets.

Update in Pediatric Asthma: Selected Issues.

Asthma is a complex condition that affects 14% of the world's children and the approach to management includes both pharmacologic as well as non-pharmacologic strategies including attention to complex socioeconomic status phenomena.
