The frequency of foodborne outbreaks epidemiologically associated with Listeria monocytogenes in fresh produce has increased in recent years. Although L. monocytogenes may be transferred from the environment to vegetables during farming, contamination of food products most commonly occurs in food processing facilities, where L.

The aim of the present study was to utilize sensitive high-throughput transcriptome analyses to investigate potential unfavorable effects of oxidized fish oil (PV: 18 meq/kg; AV: 9) compared to high-quality fish oil (PV: 4 meq/kg; AV: 3).
Methods: In a double-blinded randomized controlled study for seven weeks, 35 healthy subjects were assigned to 8 g of either oxidized fish oil or high quality fish oil.
The terpene content of milk and cream made from milk obtained from cows fed indoors, and by early or late grazing, in alpine rangeland farms in Norway, were analysed for three consecutive years. The main terpenes identified and semi-quantified were the monoterpenes β-pinene, α-pinene, α-thujene, camphene, sabinene, δ-3-carene, d-limonene, γ-terpinene, camphor, β-citronellene, and the sesquiterpene β-caryophyllene. The average total terpene content increased five times during the alpine rangeland feeding period.

Crantz), focusing on the influence of environmental factors on nutritional quality parameters. Field experiments with precrop barley were conducted in Norway in the growing seasons 2007, 2008, and 2009.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of fish oil supplementation on the plasma lipidomic profile in healthy subjects.
Methodology/principal Findings: In a double-blinded randomized controlled parallel-group study, healthy subjects received capsules containing either 8 g/d of fish oil (FO) (1.
Brassica vegetables contain a diverse range of phytochemicals with biological properties such as antioxidant and anticancer activity. However, knowledge about how biological activities are affected by processing is lacking. A green cultivar and a red cultivar of curly kale were evaluated for water/methanol-soluble phytochemicals before and after processing involving blanching, freeze storage, and boil-in-bag heat treatment.

Paradoxically, randomised controlled trials (RCT) using pharmacological doses of antioxidant supplements have demonstrated harmful effects in smokers. The aim of the present study was to test the compliance, tolerability and safety of two food-based antioxidant-rich diets in smokers.

Dietary polyphenols have been associated with strategies for prevention and treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases. We investigated the effect of bilberry juice on serum and plasma biomarkers of inflammation and antioxidant status in subjects with elevated levels of at least one risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD).

A few polyphenols have been shown to be potent inhibitors of protein kinases.
Aims Of Study: To identify possible dietary protein kinase A (PKA) inhibitors we designed a method for screening of substances in crude mixtures of food items for modulation of intracellular PKA activity that enables high-throughput testing of a large number of compounds and extracts.
Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is associated with heterogeneity of the onset and severity of coronary heart disease (CHD). In this study, we investigated different low-grade proinflammatory markers and the atheroprotective function of the HDL3 subfraction in FH-patients (n = 13) with identical LDL-receptor mutations and in age- and sex-matched healthy controls (n = 11). Compared with healthy controls, FH-patients had greater gene expressions of the proatherogenic mediators TNF-alpha and IL-8 in circulating peripheral blood mononuclear cells.

The pulmonary injury was assessed by matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) activity, oxidative stress, IL-8, and histology 2.5 h after resuscitation from a hypoxic state.

We hypothesized that resuscitation with 100% O2 compared with ambient air is detrimental to the cerebral tissue. We assessed cerebral injury in newborn piglets that underwent global hypoxia and subsequent resuscitation with 21 or 100% O2 by extracellular glycerol, matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) expression levels, and oxidative stress.
