Background: Malaria remains a public health problem in Kenya despite several concerted control efforts. Empirical evidence regarding malaria effects in Kenya suggests that the disease imposes substantial economic costs, jeopardizing the achievement of sustainable development goals. The Kenya Malaria Strategy (2019-2023), which is currently being implemented, is one of several sequential malaria control and elimination strategies.

The Saxon Study for General Medicine (SESAM) investigated the reasons why patients consulted the general physician, what diagnoses were established, and how the patients were subsequently treated. In the majority of cases, the reason for the abdominal complaints was located in the gastrointestinal or urogenital tract, in the presence of infections or psychosomatic problems. Gynecological problems must also be considered, while diseases other than gastrointestinal are of no significance for the differential diagnosis of abdominal complaints in the general physician's office.

Thirteen lymph node biopsy specimens with Hodgkin's disease (six cases of the nodular sclerosis type; six cases of the mixed cellularity type; one case of the lymphocytic depletion type) were studied with scanning cytophotometric measurements. The DNA content of small lymphocytes, large lymphocytes, atypical mononuclear cells and Hodgkin cells was measured. The sizes of the nuclei and mitotic indices were also measured.
