[High frequency oscillatory ventilation in the preterm newborn infants with respiratory distress syndrome].

Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficiency and response of gas exchange by the use of high frequency respiratory modalities in cases rescued after failure of conventional mechanical ventilation.

Patients And Methods: A retrospective study of twelve premature infants that required high frequency ventilation (HFV) as rescue therapy for treatment of respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) because of failure of conventional mechanical ventilation (CNV) were studied. The mean weight and gestational age were 1,041 gr (500-1,730) and 28 weeks (26-34), respectively.

[Our experience in the surgical treatment of cervical carcinoma].

The authors study 60 cases of invasive carcinoma of the cervix uteri belonging to several tumor stages. They analyze their past history, histology, lymph node invasion and symptomatology. The authors indicate the employed therapy and the five year survival rate, that was 82.

[Tumor markers in cervical carcinoma].

The value of seven tumor markers to differentiate preinvasive and invasive gynecologic tumors is studied. CEA beta -hCH. alpha -FP and alpha-glycoprotein/prealbumin quotient allow such differentiation, while TPA, LDH-V and PRL have no value as markers of the gynecologic tumors and to not distinguish between preinvasive and invasive tumors.

[Chemotherapy of advanced cervical carcinoma].

The authors describe a therapeutic trial of advanced cervical carcinoma using adriamycin and Methotrexate (84 cases), cis-platinum (9 cases), bleomycin and mitomycin C (18 cases), and a combination of cis-platinum, bleomycin and mitomycin C. Good results were never obtained.

[Assessment of fetal maturity by measurement of the phospholipids in the amniotic fluid. Comparison of the results with the lecithin/sphingomyelin ratio].

The authors explored the possibility of assessing fetal lung maturity by measuring the phospholipids in the amniotic fluid by the enzymatic technique of Takayama et al. [8]. The study was conducted on 41 pregnancies.
