Pulmonary gangrene, a rare form of suppurative lung lesion, is the result of bacterial infection associated with vascular thromboses. It is one of the few affections that produce a meniscus image delimiting the pulmonary sequestrum. A case is reported of a woman with pulmonary venous hypertension from mitral disease who developed gangrene limited to Fowler's segment.

The authors report the first published case of an esophagotracheal fistula revealing the presence of Hodgkin's disease. Esophagotracheal fistula is a very rare complication of this disease, as only about twenty cases were found in the literature, but all these patients had known Hodgkin's disease and had received mediastinal irradiation. Radiotherapy has therefore an adjuvant role, but this case clearly illustrates that these fistulae are mainly the consequence of phenomena that are also extremely rare: necrotic adenopathies, esophageal and tracheal localizations.

34 bronchial arteriograms were performed in 34 patients over two years. The authors tried to assess the value of this technique in the localization and treatment of haemoptysis. The study confirms the excellent results which are obtained immediately by selective embolisation to achieve haemostasis in severe cases of haemoptysis studied acutely (12 out of 14 cases).

Five cases of extrahepatic cholestasis caused by impaction of a voluminous gallstone in the neck of the gallbladder or the cystic duct are reported. The formation of a biliobiliary fistula is the rule. Percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography visualizes the fistulas and permits their classification into 2 groups: gallbladder to hepatic duct, and cystic to hepatic duct.

In a patient undergoing re-operation on the hip, the severity and repetition of haemorrhages despite successive blood transfusions led to therapeutic angiography. Angiography of the renal artery pinpointed the bleeding areas: pools of extravasated blood were found along the distal branches of the superior gluteal artery and the ascending branch of the posterior circumflex artery. Selective catheterization and embolization of these two vessels resulted in complete and permanent haemostasis.

Carcinoma of the bronchus was detected following the onset of cardiac rhythm disorders, and a pneumopericardium with associated, radiologically detected, unilateral pulmonary edema. The tumor extended mainly around the bronchus and in the mediastinum, and a bronchopericardial fistula was present together with invasion of the left auricle and pulmonary veins. Pneumopericardium is a rare lesion and it is exceptional to observe it during the course of bronchial cancer.

Surgical decompression in 12 patients with panlobular emphysema and severe respiratory insufficiency, over the last 5 years, gave encouraging postoperative results. Preoperative radiological examination results were well correlated with findings during operation. Signs of thoracic distention and diffuse peripheral hypovascularization were noted in all cases.

The authors report a case of rupture of an atheromatous plaque in a non-ectatic sub-renal aorta without signs of aneurysm or evidence of an infectious process. Similar cases do not appear to have been reported.

A urographic pattern of renal clubbing and scarring was found in 182 scarred kidneys of 110 adult patients. Homolateral vesicoureteric reflux was demonstrated by reliable techniques in 90/135 scarred kidneys. Urinary tract infections occurred in 75 patients.

The authors used the Chiba needle for percutaneous trasphepatic cholangiography in 20 patients. Catheterisation of non-dilated biliary canals is easy with this new piece of equipment, making it possible to confirm or eliminate the presence of an obstruction. There were no severe complications.

The authors present a case of primary meningeal melanoblastoma localized in the cervical region, in a 47 year old woman. The intra and extradural, extramedullary tumor presented clinically and radiologically as a neuroma with central calcification. This case thus widens the possible causes of an intraspinal tumoral syndrome with radiological calcification.
