Published trials of TACE for HCC are often not registered and subject to outcome reporting bias.

Background & Aims: In 2005, the registration of all randomised controlled trials (RCTs) before enrolment of participants became a condition for publication by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors to increase transparency in trial reporting. Among RCTs on transarterial chemoembolisation (TACE) for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) published after 2007, we assess the proportion that were registered and compare registered primary outcomes (PO) with those reported in publications to determine whether primary outcome reporting bias favoured significant outcomes.

Methods: We searched MEDLINE and EMBASE for reports of RCTs evaluating TACE for HCC treatment between 1 September 2007 and 31 March 2018.

Background And Objectives: Cancer services are under increasing pressure to deliver waiting time targets. Our service has seen referral numbers increase to over 3000 per annum, with more than 80% coming from secondary care. In order to deliver a responsive service, the department has introduced a daily diagnostic multidisciplinary meeting (DMDT) with the aim being stratification of resources by directing rapid access to clinics and diagnostics to those felt to be at greatest risk of malignancy at the start of the pathway.

Borrowing trouble? The impact of a systematic review service on interlibrary loan borrowing in an academic health sciences library.

Background: With the mandate to review all available literature in the study's inclusion parameters, systematic review projects are likely to require full-text access to a significant number of articles that are not available in a library's collection, thereby necessitating ordering content via interlibrary loan (ILL). The aim of this study is to understand what effect a systematic review service has on the copyright royalty fees accompanying ILL requests at an academic health sciences library.

Case Presentation: The library created a custom report using ILLiad data to look specifically at 2018 ILL borrowing requests that were known to be part of systematic reviews.

Glioblastoma with a primitive neuroectodermal component: two cases with implications for glioblastoma cell-of-origin.

Background: Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common primary brain malignancy, but much remains unknown about the histogenesis of these tumors. In the great majority of cases, GBM is a purely glial tumor but in rare cases the classic-appearing high-grade glioma component is admixed with regions of small round blue cells with neuronal immunophenotype, and these tumors have been defined in the WHO 2016 Classification as "glioblastoma with a primitive neuronal component."

Methods: In this paper, we present two cases of GBM-PNC with highly divergent clinical courses, and review current theories for the GBM cell-of-origin.

Pain occurs in a wide range of diseases and long-term conditions associated with ageing and can affect every aspect of an individual's life, reducing their ability to recover, their independence and their quality of life. The assessment of pain is an important aspect of nurses' role and requires them to obtain detailed information on how the older person experiences pain and how pain is affecting their life. However, there are many challenges to effective pain assessment in older people, including challenges concerning communication and cognition.

Research Design And Methods: We conducted a prospective cohort study to identify case subjects with COVID-19 across a regional health care network of 137 service locations. Using an electronic health record query, chart review, and patient contact, we identified clinical factors influencing illness severity.

Glioblastoma (GBM), the most aggressive form of brain cancer, has witnessed very little clinical progress over the last decades, in part, due to the absence of effective drug delivery strategies. Intravenous injection is the least invasive drug delivery route to the brain, but has been severely limited by the blood-brain barrier (BBB). Biologic Augmentation of Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair Using Minced Autologous Subacromial Bursa.

Failure of rotator cuff repair surgery can be attributed to a variety of factors, including insufficient biologic environment to support healing. The subacromial bursal tissue has been shown to have a reservoir of mesenchymal stem cells and is a potential source for biologic augmentation during rotator cuff repair. We have developed a technique to capture the subacromial bursal tissue during subacromial bursectomy and then reimplant the tissue on the bursal surface of the rotator cuff tendon after rotator cuff repair.

Multifunctional Synthetic Protein Nanoparticles via Reactive Electrojetting.

Protein nanoparticles are a promising approach for nanotherapeutics, as proteins combine versatile chemical and biological function with controlled biodegradability. In this work, the development of an adaptable synthesis method is presented for synthetic protein nanoparticles (SPNPs) based on reactive electrojetting. In contrast to past work with electrohydrodynamic cojetting using inert polymers, the jetting solutions are comprised of proteins and chemically activated macromers, designed to react with each other during the processing step, to form insoluble nanogel particles.

Programmable Delivery of Synergistic Cancer Drug Combinations Using Bicompartmental Nanoparticles.

Delivery of multiple therapeutics has become a preferred method of treating cancer, albeit differences in the biodistribution and pharmacokinetic profiles of individual drugs pose challenges in effectively delivering synergistic drug combinations to and at the tumor site. Here, bicompartmental Janus nanoparticles comprised of domains are reported with distinct bulk properties that allow for independent drug loading and release. Programmable drug release can be triggered by a change in the pH value and depends upon the bulk properties of the polymers used in the respective compartments, rather than the molecular structures of the active agents.

There is a wide differential diagnosis of early onset respiratory distress especially in term babies, and interstitial lung disease (chILD) is a rare but important consideration in this context. chILD manifesting immediately after birth is usually related to mutations in surfactant protein genes, or conditions related to the Congenital Acinar Dysplasia -Alveolar capillary dysplasia - Congenital Alveolar Dysplasia (CAD-ACD) spectrum. There is currently no specific treatment for these conditions, and management is supportive.

How Are Indeterminate Pulmonary Nodules at Diagnosis Associated with Survival in Patients with High-Grade Osteosarcoma?

Background: Pulmonary metastases are a poor prognostic factor in patients with osteosarcoma; however, the clinical significance of subcentimeter lung nodules and whether they represent a tumor is not fully known. Because the clinician is faced with decisions regarding biopsy, resection, or observation of lung nodules and the potential impact they have on decisions about resection of the primary tumor, this remains an area of uncertainty in patient treatment. Surgical management of the primary tumor is tailored to prognosis, and it is unclear how aggressively patients with indeterminate pulmonary nodules (IPNs), defined as nodules smaller than 1 cm at presentation, should be treated.
