Aim: To investigate the prognostic factors of survival in patients with high-grade gliomas without isocitrate dehydrogenase-1 (IDH) mutation and O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) promoter methylation.
Methods: The study enrolled Slovenian patients with high-grade gliomas. Postoperatively, they completed a battery of neuropsychological tests.
Introduction: Subsequent breast cancer (SBC) represents a major complication in childhood cancer survivors and screening for SBC in survivors after incidental irradiation of breasts is recommended. In this article, we report the results and discuss benefits of SBC screening in female pts treated for Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL) in Slovenia in a period of 45 years.
Methods: Between 1966 and 2010, 117 females were treated for HL under the age of 19 in Slovenia.
Background And Purpose: Myeloablative Total Body Irradiation (TBI) is an important modality in conditioning for allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), especially in children with high-risk acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). TBI practices are heterogeneous and institution-specific. Since TBI is associated with multiple late adverse effects, recommendations may help to standardize practices and improve the outcome versus toxicity ratio for children.

A probabilistic risk assessment model was developed to estimate potential risks. Milk occurrence and contamination levels were reported in a previous article from our group.

Methods: Screening colonoscopies were introduced at the Slovenian outpatient follow-up clinic in 2015, according to the Children's Oncology Group guidelines. In January 2019, 54 patients who received abdominopelvic irradiation for Hodgkin disease, Wilms tumour or dysgerminoma at the age of 0-16 between 1968 and 1995 were eligible for screening colonoscopy, and until December 2019, twenty-eight asymptomatic patients have undergone this examination.
Extramedullary plasmacytoma of the head and neck is a rare indolent neoplasm. Radiotherapy is often the preferred treatment option with excellent local control and survival. The risk of local recurrence or transformation to multiple myeloma is 10-30%.

The study purpose was to evaluate clinical practices regarding TBI, such as fractionation, organ shielding and delivery techniques, among SIOPE affiliated radiotherapy centers.
Methods: An electronic survey was sent out to 233 SIOPE affiliated centers, containing 57 questions about clinical practice of TBI.
Prior to 1985 the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) estimated global food crop contamination with mycotoxins to be 25%. The origin of this statement is largely unknown. To assess the rationale for it, the relevant literature was reviewed and data of around 500,000 analyses from the European Food Safety Authority and large global survey for aflatoxins, fumonisins, deoxynivalenol, T-2 and HT-2 toxins, zearalenone and ochratoxin A in cereals and nuts were examined.

Tropospheric aerosols are involved in several key atmospheric processes: from ice nucleation, cloud formation, and precipitation to weather and climate. The impact of aerosols on these atmospheric processes depends on the chemical and physical characteristics of aerosol particles, and these characteristics are still largely uncertain. In this study, we developed a system for processing and aerosolization of melted snow in particle-free air, coupled with a real-time measurement of aerosol size distributions.

The rapid identification of mycotoxins such as deoxynivalenol and aflatoxin B in agricultural commodities is an ongoing concern for food importers and processors. While sophisticated chromatography-based methods are well established for regulatory testing by food safety authorities, few techniques exist to provide a rapid assessment for traders. This study advances the development of a mid-infrared spectroscopic method, recording spectra with little sample preparation.

The role of volatile organic compounds (VOC) in the snowpack for atmospheric oxidation, gas-particle transfer and aerosol formation remains poorly understood, partly due to a lack of methodology and unavailable data. We deployed solid phase micro-extraction (SPME) gas chromatography with flame ionization detection for measurement of halogenated, aromatic and oxygenated VOC in the snow pack in Alert, NU, Canada, a High Arctic site. Maximum concentrations in snow were 39 ± 6 μg L(-1) (styrene), indicating a potential VOC contribution to atmospheric oxidation and aerosol formation.

Micro-organisms and organic compounds of biogenic or anthropogenic origins are important constituents of atmospheric aerosols, which are involved in atmospheric processes and climate change. In order to investigate the role of fungi and their metabolisation activity, we collected airborne fungi using a biosampler in an urban location of Montreal, Quebec, Canada (45 degrees 28' N, 73 degrees 45' E). After isolation on Sabouraud dextrose agar, we exposed isolated colonies to dicarboxylic acids (C(2)-C(7)), a major group of organic aerosols and monitored their growth.

Repeatable spectra were obtained from samples featuring a narrow particle size distribution. Samples were ground with a centrifugal mill and analysed with an analytical sieve shaker.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFQuantification and transformation of organic compounds are pivotal in understanding atmospheric processes, because such compounds contribute to the oxidative capacity of the atmosphere and drive climate change. It has recently been recognized that chemical reactions in snow play a role in the production or destruction of photolabile volatile organic compounds (VOC). We present an environmentally friendly method for determination of VOC and semi-VOC in snow collected at three sites-remote, urban, and (sub-)arctic.

Corn samples from a single genotype (RWA2, blanks, and contaminated with Fusarium graminearum) were ground, sieved and, after appropriate sample preparation, subjected to mid-infrared spectroscopy using two different accessories (diffuse reflection and attenuated total reflection). The measured spectra were evaluated with principal component analysis (PCA) and the blank and contaminated samples were classified by cluster analysis.

The ground sample was sieved and the particle size fraction between >250 and 100 microm was used for mid-infrared/attenuated total reflection (ATR) measurements. The sample was pressed onto the ATR crystal, and reproducible pressure was applied.
