Galactoglucomannan (GGM) is the predominant hemicellulose in coniferous trees, such as Norway spruce, and has been used as a multipurpose emulsifier in the food industry. In vitro digestion with a cellular antioxidant activity assay was performed to determine the bioaccessibility and antioxidant activity of phenolic compounds, and the behaviour of GGM on in vivo experimental assay against induced colon cancer. The results showed that digestion decreased the bioaccessibility and antioxidant capacity of phenolic compounds.

The serine/arginine-rich protein kinases (SRPK) specifically phosphorylate their substrates at RS-rich dipeptides, which are abundantly found in SR splicing factors. SRPK are classically known for their ability to affect the splicing and expression of gene isoforms commonly implicated in cancer and diseases associated with infectious processes. Non-splicing functions have also been attributed to SRPK, which highlight their functional plasticity and relevance as therapeutic targets for pharmacological intervention.

Rhipicephalus microplus, known as the cattle tick, is a cause of great economic losses for dairy cattle farming because of its high frequency of occurrence and the difficulty in controlling it. This research characterized the chemical profile and evaluated the in vitro toxicity of crude Lithraea brasiliensis extract and its isolated compound against acaricide-resistant and acaricide-susceptible R. microplus strains.

The indan-1,3-dione and its derivatives are important building blocks in organic synthesis and present important biological activities. Herein, the leishmanicidal and cytotoxicity evaluation of 16 2-arylidene indan-1,3-diones is described. The compounds were evaluated against the leukemia cell lines HL60 and Nalm6, and the most effective ones were 2-(4-nitrobenzylidene)-1H-indene-1,3(2H)-dione (4) and 4-[(1,3-dioxo-1H-inden-2(3H)-ylidene)methyl]benzonitrile (10), presenting IC values of around 30 µmol/L against Nalm6.

Interactions of arsenic with essential trace elements may result in disturbances on body homeostasis. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the effects of different arsenic compounds on micromineral content and antioxidant enzyme activities in rat liver. Male Wistar rats were randomly divided into five groups and exposed to sodium arsenite and sodium arsenate at 0.
