Veterinary care providers recognize clinical utility of genetic testing but report limited confidence in interpreting direct-to-consumer results.

Objective: Direct-to-consumer (D2C) genetic tests are increasingly accessible to pet owners, with commercial genetic companies entering veterinary distribution markets. This study evaluated veterinary care providers' (VCPs) awareness of the D2C genetic industry, experiences with clients' inquiries, perceptions of clinical utility, and confidence in interpreting test results.

Methods: Veterinary care providers attending a professional conference (February 19 through 23, 2023) were invited to complete an online survey.

Perceived body acceptance by personal trainers and client body appreciation in women in the UK: A pre-registered study.

Research is yet to consider the potential for personal trainers (PTs) to influence their client's thoughts and feelings surrounding their body. This pre-registered study explored a model of positive body image in women personal training clients in the UK. Participants (n = 234, mean age = 51) completed an online questionnaire assessing body mass index (BMI), perceived body acceptance by their PT and various other measures related to body image.

Inborn errors of immunity reveal molecular requirements for generation and maintenance of human CD4 IL-9-expressing cells.

Background: CD4 T cells play essential roles in adaptive immunity. Distinct CD4 T-cell subsets-T1, T2, T17, T22, T follicular helper, and regulatory T cells-have been identified, and their contributions to host defense and immune regulation are increasingly well defined. IL-9-producing T9 cells were first described in 2008 and appear to play both protective and pathogenic roles in human immunity.

Head-to-head comparison of two human papillomavirus vaccines for efficacy against cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 3 and adenocarcinoma -population-based follow-up of two cluster-randomized trials.

Introduction: We report head-to-head comparison of the bivalent and quadrivalent HPV vaccine efficacies against immediate precursors of cervical cancer from 15 years' country-wide cancer registry follow-up of phase III trial cohorts and an age-aligned cohort of unvaccinated women.

Methods: These individually and/or clusterrandomized cohorts of HPV6/11/16/18- and HPV16/18-vaccinated and unvaccinated women were enrolled, respectively, in 2002, 2004, and 2003/2005. The trial cohorts comprised initially 16- to 17-year-old HPV6/11/16/18-vaccinated FUTURE II (NCT00092534) participants (866) and HPV16/18-vaccinated PATRICIA (NCT00122681) and 012 trial (NCT00169494) participants (2,465), and 16,526 initially 16- to 19-year-old unvaccinated controls.

Diagnostic accuracy of Ages and Stages Questionnaire, Third Edition to identify abnormal or delayed gross motor development in high-risk infants.

Aim: To investigate the diagnostic accuracy of parent-completed Ages and Stages Questionnaire, Third Edition (ASQ-3) to identify abnormal or delayed gross motor development in infants born less than 1000 g or less than 28 weeks gestation.

Methods: Prospective cohort study of high-risk infants comparing ASQ-3 as the index test with concurrent score on Alberta Infant Motor Scale (AIMS) as the reference standard, at 4-, 8- and 12-month corrected (post-term) age. Reference standard positivity cut-offs were 'Abnormal motor development' (AIMS Clinical Range) and 'Motor delay' (AIMS score >1 SD below mean, not captured in Clinical Range).

A cross-sectional study of the relationship between iron deficiency anaemia and chronic pain.

Iron deficiency and iron deficiency anaemia are frequently under-recognised in chronic conditions with non-specific symptoms, including fatigue. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of iron deficiency with or without anaemia in chronic pain patients, and the association between iron deficiency status, fatigue and health-related quality of life. Eighty-two patients attending chronic pain outpatient appointments were recruited into this cross-sectional study.

Lack of detectable HPV18 antibodies in 14% of quadrivalent vaccinees in a longitudinal cohort study.

Although HPV vaccines are highly efficacious, a notable proportion of quadrivalent vaccinees are HPV18 seronegative post-vaccination. Here, we describe a young individual of Polynesian ancestry who in the first 13 mo of life presented with SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia, severe enterovirus meningitis and adenovirus gastroenteritis, and severe adverse reaction to MMR vaccination.

Self-determination in programmes of perinatal health for Aboriginal Communities: A systematic review.

Objective: The importance of self-determination in restoring the wellbeing of Australian First Nations peoples is becoming understood. For thousands of years, Aboriginal women gave birth on Country and Grandmothers' Lore and Women's Business facilitated the survival of the oldest living civilisations on earth. Following colonisation, however, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander practices of maternal and perinatal care were actively dismantled, and self-determination by Aboriginal people was destroyed.

Determination of Toxic Elements in Botanical Dietary Supplement Ingredient Reference Materials.

Background: The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has produced over 40 botanical dietary supplement Standard Reference Materials (SRMs) and reference materials (RMs) with values assigned for chemical markers and/or active compounds. Although environmental accumulation or inadvertent introduction of toxic elements (arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury) is a potential source of exposure in botanical dietary supplement products, the majority of the dietary supplement SRMs/RMs do not have values assigned for the four major toxic elements.

Introduction: Serological surveys of the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 are instrumental to understanding the course of the COVID-19 epidemic. We evaluate the seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 among young adult Finnish females residing in 25 communities all over Finland from 2020 until 2022.

Low methylation marker levels among human papillomavirus-vaccinated women with cervical high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions.

Cervical cancer screening programs, including triage tests, need redesigning as human papillomavirus (HPV)-vaccinated women are entering the programs. Methylation markers offer a potential solution to reduce false-positive rates by identifying clinically relevant cervical lesions with progressive potential. In a nested case-control study, 9242 women who received the three-dose HPV16/18-vaccine at ages 12-15 or 18 in a community-randomized trial were included.

The Effectiveness and Perceptions of Three Moderate Intensity Walking Cadence Aids and their Effects on Affective States: A Mixed Methods Study.

Substantial health benefits can be derived from walking at a moderate intensity cadence. To help regulate this cadence, three distinct aids exist 1) self-perception; 2) cadence prescription; 3) auditory cues. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness and explore perceptions of these aids to promote moderate intensity walking and effects on affective states, thereby addressing an important research gap.

Scientific approaches toward improving cervical cancer elimination strategies.

At the 2023 EUROGIN workshop scientific basis for strategies to accelerate the elimination of cervical cancer and its causative agent, human papillomavirus (HPV) were reviewed. Although some countries have reached key performance indicators toward elimination (>90% of girls HPV vaccinated and >70% of women HPV screened), most are yet to reach these targets, implying a need for improved strategies. Gender-neutral vaccination, even with moderate vaccination coverage was highlighted as a strategy to achieve elimination more rapidly.
