Purpose: The trend towards lower radiation doses and advances in computed tomography (CT) reconstruction may impair the operation of pretrained segmentation models, giving rise to the problem of estimating the dose robustness of existing segmentation models. Previous studies addressing the issue suffer either from a lack of registered low- and full-dose CT images or from simplified simulations.
Approach: We employed raw data from full-dose acquisitions to simulate low-dose CT scans, avoiding the need to rescan a patient.
Objectives: Cardiac motion artifacts hinder the assessment of coronary arteries in coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA). We investigated the impact of motion compensation reconstruction (MCR) on motion artifacts in CCTA at various heart rates (HR) using a dynamic phantom.
Materials And Methods: An artificial hollow coronary artery (5-mm diameter lumen) filled with iodinated contrast agent (400 HU at 120 kVp), positioned centrally in an anthropomorphic chest phantom, was scanned using a dual-layer spectral detector CT.

Background: High-altitude tourist trekking continues to grow in popularity on the Everest Trek in Nepal. We examined which pre-existing cardiovascular and health conditions these global trekkers had and what health issues they encountered during the trek, be it exacerbations of pre-existing conditions, or new acute ones.
Method: Trekkers ( = 350) were recruited from guesthouses along the Everest Trek, mostly at Tengboche (3860 m).

HAPE is characterized by severe pulmonary hypertension, though the incidence and relevance of individual risk factors are not yet predictable. Cardiomyocytes and their mitochondria are the main energy producers and consumers of the heart, and their metabolic changes during ischemia seem to be a key driver of reperfusion injury. Here, we hypothesized that tracking changes in cardiomyocyte metabolism, such as oxygen and ATP concentrations, would help in identifying points of metabolic failure during ischemia and reperfusion.

Objectives: To evaluate whether there is an increased risk for noise-induced hearing loss at high altitude rsp. in hypobaric hypoxia.
Methods: Thirteen volunteers got standard audiometry at 125, 250, 500, 750, 1000, 1500, 2000, 3000, 4000, 6000, and 8000 Hz before and after 10 min of white noise at 90 dB.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjective: The aim is to evaluate whether smart worklist prioritization by artificial intelligence (AI) can optimize the radiology workflow and reduce report turnaround times (RTATs) for critical findings in chest radiographs (CXRs). Furthermore, we investigate a method to counteract the effect of false negative predictions by AI-resulting in an extremely and dangerously long RTAT, as CXRs are sorted to the end of the worklist.
Methods: We developed a simulation framework that models the current workflow at a university hospital by incorporating hospital-specific CXR generation rates and reporting rates and pathology distribution.
Metal objects in the human heart such as implanted pacemakers frequently lead to heavy artifacts in reconstructed CT image volumes. Due to cardiac motion, common metal artifact reduction methods which assume a static object during CT acquisition are not applicable. Cardiac motion artifacts frequently reduce the interpretability of coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) images and potentially lead to misinterpretations or preclude the diagnosis of coronary artery disease (CAD). In this paper, a novel motion compensation approach dealing with Coronary Motion estimation by Patch Analysis in CT data (CoMPACT) is presented.
