Characteristics of Individuals Seen as Sources of Social Support in Populations at Increased Risk for HIV.

Access to social support from one's social network can serve as a protective factor against HIV infection; however, research exploring the availability of support in diverse populations that include high proportions of people at increased risk for HIV and the characteristics of network members associated with access to such support is limited. Multi-level dyadic analyses of social network data collected from women at risk for HIV and their network members reveal which individual and relationship characteristics of network members are associated with providing emotional, material, and/or health informational support. Results indicate that access to all three types of support was associated with a network member being a friend, a member of a participant's 'core' group, someone whose opinion matters to the respondent, and the respondent trusting them.

Colonised minds and community psychology in the academy: Collaborative autoethnographic reflections.

We reflect on decolonization and in particular the process of decolonizing our own minds. We discuss the need for radical decolonization of psychology and for critique of community psychology's relationship to both psychology and the Academy, noting ways in which community psychology itself becomes appropriated for the colonizing project of the Academy. Using collaborative autoethnography (CAE), a method that involves "collaborative poetics," which chimes with the emphasis on participatory research in community psychology and the decolonialist emphasis on rescuing repressed epistemologies, we review our own careers and identify ways in which our values have been compromised and our work assimilated into wider colonizing and oppressive practices that sustain the modern university.

Activation of adenosine receptors inhibits tumor necrosis factor-alpha release by decreasing TNF-alpha mRNA stability and p38 activity.

Adenosine receptor agonists have anti-inflammatory properties and modulate immune responses partly by inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokine production by monocytes. We investigated signal transduction mechanisms by which adenosine receptor activation inhibits tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) production. Phorbol-12-myristate-13-acetate (PMA) and phytohemagglutinin treatment of human pro-monocytic U937 cells increased TNF-alpha protein release.

FGDP: functional genomics data pipeline for automated, multiple microarray data analyses.

Unlabelled: Gene expression microarrays and oligonucleotide GeneChips have provided biologists with a means of measuring, in a single experiment, the expression levels of entire genomes under a variety of conditions. As with any nascent field, there is no single accepted method for analyzing the new data types, with new methods appearing monthly. Investigators using the new technology must constantly seek access to the latest tools and explore their data in multiple ways.
