Pesticide residues quantification in frozen fruit and vegetables in Chilean domestic market using QuEChERS extraction with ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography electrospray ionization Orbitrap mass spectrometry.

Pesticide residues on foods are a global concern due to the impact on human health. Many countries have adopted regulations to establish Maximum Residue Levels (MRLs) to control use of pesticides. This study aimed to determine pesticide residues in frozen fruit and vegetables from Chilean retail stores using UHPLC-Orbitrap MS and QuEChERS™ multiresidue-extraction kit.

Clinical evaluation of hexagonal keratotomy for the treatment of primary hyperopia.

We evaluated the effectiveness of spiral hexagonal keratotomy in correcting primary hyperopia in 199 eyes. One hundred eighty-four eyes (92.5%) had a minimum follow-up of three months.

Radial keratotomy in patients with atypical inferior steepening.

Using corneal topography we screened 1,368 consecutive eyes that had radial keratotomy from November 1991 through April 1993. Fourteen eyes in nine patients exhibited topographic patterns consistent with "keratoconus suspect" status, but only one had atypical clinical findings. At four to 19 months postoperatively, refraction and uncorrected visual acuity improved in all eyes.

Intraocular lens implant power calculations: investigations controlling for lens type.

Many second generation intraocular lens power calculation formulas have recently been introduced. This study explores the performance of these formulas while controlling for a potential source of variation--the lens type. For this study, all 1,157 cases studied used the Cilco CPLU posterior chamber lens.

Effects of peripheral redeepening on radial keratotomy surgery.

In recent years, considerable attention has been given to the long- and short-term effects of radial keratotomy. These effects vary according to a number of key surgical parameters, including optical clear zone size, number of incisions, depth of incisions, and placement of incisions. This paper examines the effect of peripheral redeepening on standard eight-incision radial keratotomy.

A new alloplastic material for ophthalmic surgery.

The application of Proplast in ocular surgery is in an early stage. We believe our preliminary work may offer a solution to the problem of erosion and slippage common to other types of implants. We are currently investigating the potential of Proplast in keratoprosthesis.
