Purpose: To study the application of radiomics in cancer imaging with a focus on lung cancer, renal cell carcinoma, gastrointestinal cancer, and head and neck cancer.
Methods: Different electronic databases were considered. Articles published in the last five years were analyzed (January 2019 and December 2023).
Background: Oligo-metastatic disease (OMD) in colon cancer patients exhibits distinct clinical behavior compared to poly-metastatic disease (PMD), with a more responsive and indolent course. This study aims to identify clinical and biological factors uniquely associated with oligo-metastatic behavior.
Methods: Metastatic colon cancer patients from an academic center underwent genetic characterization.
External beam radiation therapy (RT) can induce toxicity in patients surgically treated for breast cancer. Modern irradiation techniques have lowered the incidence and severity of radiation-induced injuries; however, their side effects on normal tissues remain challenging. This review illustrates early and late changes observed using ultrasound (US) imaging, including echocardiography, at the skin, muscle, pleura, lungs, and heart levels.

The combination of X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, operando X-ray absorption spectroscopy, and Raman spectroscopy allows us to study the different Ce/ Ce ratios induced by the post growth annealing procedure, together with the Ce valence changes induced by different gas atmosphere exposure. Our results give evidence of different kinetics as a function of the annealing temperature, with the sample annealed at 800 °C showing marked changes of the Ce oxidation state when exposed to both reducing and oxidizing gas atmospheres at moderate temperature (300 °C), while the Ce valence is weakly affected for the 1000 °C annealed sample.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation among inflammatory biomarkers, such as the systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and the recurrence of pleomorphic adenomas (PAs).
Study Design: This was a retrospective multicenter study. Six hundred eight patients diagnosed with PA and treated by tumor enucleation were included in the analyses.
Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMNs) are a very common incidental finding during patient radiological assessment. These lesions may progress from low-grade dysplasia (LGD) to high-grade dysplasia (HGD) and even pancreatic cancer. The IPMN progression risk grows with time, so discontinuation of surveillance is not recommended.

In biomedical image processing, Deep Learning (DL) is increasingly exploited in various forms and for diverse purposes. Despite unprecedented results, the huge number of parameters to learn, which necessitates a substantial number of annotated samples, remains a significant challenge. In medical domains, obtaining high-quality labelled datasets is still a challenging task.

Firstly, we addressed the topic of patient preparation, emphasizing methods to enhance examination acceptance. This included strategies for reducing anxiety and patient distress, improving staff-patient interactions, and increasing overall patient comfort.

Objective: We conducted a post hoc analysis to identify potential radiomic biomarkers for patients with CRC liver metastasis (LM).
Patients And Methods: Patients with LM that could be measured by enhanced contrast phase computed tomography (CT) imaging at baseline and at first response evaluation were included.
Pulmonary sequestration is a rare congenital pulmonary anomaly where a portion of the lung parenchyma is supplied by an anomalous systemic artery, usually originating from the thoracic or abdominal aorta. Traditionally surgical resection and ligation of the aberrant feeding vessel are the gold standard treatments of this disease. Hybrid operations consisting in endovascular arterial embolization and surgical resection is a promising treatment option.

Methods: Patient selection in a retrospective study was carried out from January 2018 to May 2021 considering the following inclusion criteria: patients subjected to surgical resection for liver metastases; proven pathological liver metastases; patients subjected to enhanced CT examination in the presurgical setting with a good quality of images; and RAS assessment as standard reference. A total of 851 radiomics features were extracted using the PyRadiomics Python package from the Slicer 3D image computing platform after slice-by-slice segmentation on CT portal phase by two expert radiologists of each individual liver metastasis performed first independently by the individual reader and then in consensus.
Objective: To evaluate the performance of radiomic analysis on contrast-enhanced mammography images to identify different histotypes of breast cancer mainly in order to predict grading, to identify hormone receptors, to discriminate human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) and to identify luminal histotype of the breast cancer.
Methods: From four Italian centers were recruited 180 malignant lesions and 68 benign lesions. However, only the malignant lesions were considered for the analysis.

This study aimed to assess the diagnostic performance of a machine learning approach that utilized radiomic features extracted from Cone Beam Computer Tomography (CBCT) images and inflammatory biomarkers for distinguishing between Dentigerous Cysts (DCs), Odontogenic Keratocysts (OKCs), and Unicystic Ameloblastomas (UAs). This retrospective study involves 103 patients who underwent jaw lesion surgery in the Maxillofacial Surgery Unit of Federico II University Of Naples between January 2018 and January 2023. Nonparametric Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney and Kruskal Wallis tests were used for continuous variables.

These patients generally have poor performance status and low tolerance to combination therapy. In this trial, we aim to evaluate the efficacy and safety of temozolomide given every other week in patients with advanced platinum-pretreated NENs G3.

However, even among sporadic PPGLs, identifiable somatic alterations in at least one of the known susceptibility genes can be detected. Therefore, about 3/4 of all PPGL patients can be assigned to one of the three molecular clusters that have been identified in the last years with difference in the underlying pathogenetic mechanisms, biochemical phenotype, metastatic potential, and prognosis.
