Purpose: Despite its high cost-effectiveness, radiation oncology faces the greatest prior authorization (PA) burden of any medical specialty. Insurance denials and resulting treatment delays have been documented across several treatment modalities, including stereotactic body radiation, intensity modulated radiation, and proton therapy. Although insurance companies suggest that PA is intended to control health care spending and ensure the implementation of evidence-based practice, the number of radiation treatment plans reviewed by the PA process that result in changes is quite low.

Patients develop reticular dermis thickening with a peau d'orange appearance at the upper back and neck that occasionally extends over the deltoids and lower back. While considered a benign disorder, it may signify more significant diabetes and can be functionally and cosmetically impairing with insidious onset, few to no effective treatments, and low spontaneous remission potential.

Methods: Patients receiving proton therapy (PT) (n=40), intensity-modulated RT (IMRT) (n=14), or both (n=10) were divided into preintervention (n=26) and postintervention cohorts (n=38); records were reviewed retrospectively under an institutional review board (IRB)-approved tracking protocol.
Cucurbiturils (CBs), barrel-shaped macrocyclic molecules, are capable of self-assembling at the surface of nanomaterials in their native state, via their carbonyl-ringed portals. However, the symmetrical two-portal structure typically leads to aggregated nanomaterials. We demonstrate that fluorescent quantum dot (QD) aggregates linked with CBs can be broken-up, retaining CBs adsorbed at their surface, via inclusion of guests in the CB cavity.

To date, few data have directly addressed whether synovial cytokine and chemokine production is modified by PDE4.

Aims: Studies have established a link between vasovagal syncope (VVS) and anxiety, depression, and functional impairment. This study examines the prevalence of psychological problems in patients with VVS and whether non-responders are psychologically different from those whose symptoms respond to conservative treatment.
Methods And Results: Subjects with tilt-confirmed VVS completed the hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS) (measures current levels of anxiety and depression) and the syncope functional status questionnaire (SFSQ) (syncope-specific quality-of-life measure) and participated in a semi-structured interview to ascertain potential triggers, thought content, and coping strategies.

Targeting tumor necrosis factor-a has proven of considerable value in treatment for rheumatoid arthritis, with substantial benefits achieved in a proportion of treated patients.
