Article Synopsis
  • E-cigarettes (ECs) could be a potential harm reduction method for individuals with chronic conditions like COPD, asthma, and heart diseases who currently smoke combustible cigarettes (CCs).
  • In a pilot study, patients were randomized to use either ECs or nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) combined with counseling, and outcomes such as cigarette use and symptom improvement were measured over six months.
  • Results showed both groups reduced their cigarette use significantly, with the EC group showing notable satisfaction and improvement in respiratory symptoms, indicating ECs may be a safer alternative to CCs for these patients.

Sulfasalazine is a prodrug known to be effective for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)-associated peripheral spondyloarthritis (pSpA), but the mechanistic role for the gut microbiome in regulating its clinical efficacy is not well understood. Here, treatment of 22 IBD-pSpA subjects with sulfasalazine identifies clinical responders with a gut microbiome enriched in Faecalibacterium prausnitzii and the capacity for butyrate production. Sulfapyridine promotes butyrate production and transcription of the butyrate synthesis gene but in F.

Background: Ecological momentary assessment (EMA) is an increasingly used tool for data collection in behavioral research, including smoking cessation studies. As previous addiction research suggests, EMA has the potential to elicit cue reactivity by triggering craving and increasing behavioral awareness. However, there has been limited evaluation of its potential influence on behavior.

Importance: Occupational exposure to carcinogens has been shown to pose a serious disease burden at the global, regional, and national levels. Based on epidemiologic studies and clinical observations, working environment appears to have important effects on the occurrence of human malignant tumors; however, to date, no systematic articles have been published that specifically investigated cancer burden due to occupational exposure in an individual and collective manner.

Objective: To estimate the degree of exposure and evaluate the cancer burden attributable to occupational carcinogens (OCs) individually and collectively by sex, age, year, and location.

Background: The epidemiology of esophageal cancer (EC) can elucidate its causes and risk factors and help develop prevention strategies. We aimed to provide an overview of the burden, trends, and risk factors of EC in China from 1990 to 2017. We also investigated the differences between China, Japan, and South Korea and discussed the possible causes of the disparities.
