Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated the effects of leachate from the Oke-Tage waste dumpsite on groundwater quality by analyzing groundwater and soil samples for various physicochemical and geochemical properties.
  • Findings showed that groundwater was contaminated with high levels of Cadmium (Cd) and Lead (Pb), and physicochemical measurements indicated elevated Electrical Conductivity (EC) and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) in the water.
  • Although the health risk assessment found no significant risks from metal exposure due to HI values lower than 1, the researchers advised caution in using water from this area for drinking and similar purposes due to overall contamination levels.

Spatial and temporal variation of suspended particulate matter was measured in Ibadan, Nigeria during the raining and dry months of 2013 and 2014, respectively. Six different locations were considered, reflecting city-spread, population density, lifestyle, and vehicular- and industrial-related activities. Elemental characterisation of the samples were carried out using energy dispersive x-ray fluorescence (ED-XRF) spectroscopy, while the black carbon content was determined using an optical transmissometer.
