The existence of multiple centrosomes in some cancer cells can lead to cell death through the formation of multipolar mitotic spindles and consequent aberrant cell division. Many cancer cells rely on HSET (KIFC1) to cluster the extra centrosomes into two groups to mimic the bipolar spindle formation of non-centrosome-amplified cells and ensure their survival. Here, we report the discovery of a novel 2-(3-benzamidopropanamido)thiazole-5-carboxylate with micromolar in vitro inhibition of HSET (KIFC1) through high-throughput screening and its progression to ATP-competitive compounds with nanomolar biochemical potency and high selectivity against the opposing mitotic kinesin Eg5.

The course aimed to facilitate a successful transition in to fellowship by introduction of the professional, patient care, and technical aspects unique to pediatric surgery training. MALS is a diagnosis of exclusion and therefore often requires that pediatric patients undergo an exhaustive number of tests and potential experiences with misdiagnosis before receiving an accurate diagnosis and treatment. Study Objective: To assess the preoperative imaging impression and surgeon diagnostic accuracy for pediatric ovarian mature cystic teratomas (MCTs) DESIGN: Retrospective review SETTING: Eleven pediatric hospitals PARTICIPANTS: Patients ages 2 to 21 who underwent surgical management of an ovarian neoplasm or adnexal torsion with an associated ovarian lesion INTERVENTION: None MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Preoperative imaging impression, surgeon diagnosis, tumor markers, and pathology RESULTS: Our cohort included 946 females. Final pathology identified 422 (45%) MCTs, 405 (43%) other benign pathologies, and 119 (12%) malignancies. Preoperative imaging impression for MCTs had a 70% sensitivity, 92% specificity, 88% positive predictive value (PPV), and 79% negative predictive value (NPV).

Diverse perspectives are critical components of effective teams in every industry. Underrepresentation of minorities in medicine leads to worse outcomes for minority patients, and efforts to increase diversity in the health care workforce are critical. Presently, about 70% of the pediatric surgery workforce is white, and pediatric surgeons at large do not reflect the racial or ethnic diversity of the populations they serve.

Symptomatic celiac artery compression syndrome (CACS) or median arcuate ligament syndrome (MALS) is a controversial diagnosis that should be considered in patients with chronic abdominal pain of unknown etiology despite an extensive medical evaluation. Once suspected, patients should undergo mesenteric duplex ultrasound. Diagnosis is confirmed with elevated celiac artery velocities which normalize with deep inspiration followed by CT angiogram showing the typical "J-hook" conformation of the celiac artery.

Although some objective factors of matriculation are known, factors for the interview selection and ranking per the program directors (PDs) have not been reviewed in over a decade.
