Chronic disruption of circadian rhythms by night shift work is associated with an increased breast cancer risk. However, little is known about the impact of night shift on peripheral circadian genes (CGs) and circadian-controlled genes (CCGs) associated with breast cancer. The continuous National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey began data collection in 1999 and proceeded without interruption until operations were suspended in March 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Once the Division of Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys was able to determine and resume safe field operations, the next survey cycle was conducted between August 2021 and August 2023. There is a dearth of medical literature that characterizes the experience of correctional health care workers (HCWs) during the COVID-19 pandemic. We performed a retrospective chart review of the results of an ongoing universal SARS-CoV-2 testing program for New Jersey correctional system HCWs and describe their presenting symptoms, perceived exposure, and demographic characteristics during the initial (March 15, 2020, to August 31, 2020) and Omicron (March 1, 2022, to August 31, 2022) COVID-19 surges. Background: Although firefighters have increased risk for colon and prostate cancer, limited information exists on screening practices for these cancers in volunteer firefighters who compose two-thirds of the US fire service. We estimated the prevalence of colon and prostate cancer screening among volunteer firefighters using eligibility criteria from 4 evidence-based screening recommendations and evaluated factors influencing screening.

Methods: We evaluated colon (n = 569) and prostate (n = 498) cancer screening prevalence in a sample of US volunteer firefighters using eligibility criteria from the US Preventive Services Taskforce (USPSTF), National Fire Protection Association, American Cancer Society, and National Comprehensive Cancer Network.

Purpose: Treatment decisions for leptomeningeal disease (LMD) rely on patient risk stratification, since clinicians lack objective prognostic tools. The introduction of rare cell capture technology for identification of cerebrospinal fluid tumor cells (CSF-TCs), such as CNSide assay, improved the sensitivity of LMD diagnosis, but prognostic value is unknown. Purpose: Histone 3 (H3) K27M-mutant diffuse midline glioma (DMG) has a dismal prognosis with no established effective therapy beyond radiation. This integrated analysis evaluated single-agent ONC201 (dordaviprone), a first-in-class imipridone, in recurrent H3 K27M-mutant DMG.

Primary brain tumors underwent reclassification in the 2021 World Health Organization update, relying on molecular findings (especially isocitrate dehydrogenase mutations and chromosomal changes in 1p, 19q, gain of chromosome 7 and loss of chromosome 10). Newer entities have also been described including histone 3 mutant midline gliomas. These updated pathologic classifications improve prognostication and reliable diagnosis, but may confuse interpretation of prior clinical trials and require reclassification of patients diagnosed in the past.

Paraneoplastic Neurologic Syndromes.

Objective: Progress is ongoing in understanding paraneoplastic neurologic disorders, with new syndromes and antibodies being described and more detailed evidence available to guide workup for diagnosis and treatment to improve outcomes. Many excellent reviews have summarized the molecular features of different antibodies, but this article emphasizes the clinical features of each syndrome that may help guide initial diagnosis and treatment, which often should occur before an antibody or cancer is found to confirm the diagnosis.

Latest Developments: Recent findings include updated diagnostic criteria with validated sensitivity and specificity, discovery of novel antibodies, and clinical findings that increase the likelihood of an underlying paraneoplastic disorder.

The Pcf11 protein is an essential subunit of the large complex that cleaves and polyadenylates eukaryotic mRNA precursor. It has also been functionally linked to gene-looping, termination of RNA Polymerase II (Pol II) transcripts, and mRNA export. We have examined a poorly characterized but conserved domain (amino acids 142-225) of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae  Pcf11 and found that while it is not needed for mRNA 3' end processing or termination downstream of the poly(A) sites of protein-coding genes, its presence improves the interaction with Pol II and the use of transcription terminators near gene promoters.

Background: This article describes the development of a comprehensive pilot program, "It's ASNAP!" (Acclimating Nursing Students After the Pandemic). The program incorporated the academic, social, and emotional well-being of undergraduate nursing students returning to campus after the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Method: A purposeful sample of 488 students was recruited to participate via an anonymous survey on the academic, social, and emotional aspects of acclimating back to campus life.
