Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a clinical condition that arises acutely in the pancreas through various inflammatory pathways due to multiple causes. Turkish Society of Gastroenterology Pancreas Working Group developed comprehensive guidance statements regarding the management of AP that include its epidemiology, etiology, clinical presentation, diagnostic criteria, disease severity, treatment, prognosis, local and systemic complications. The statements were developed through literature review, deliberation, and consensus opinion.

Introduction: Personalized management strategies are pivotal in addressing irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). This multicenter randomized controlled trial focuses on comparing the efficacy of a microbiome-based artificial intelligence-assisted personalized diet (PD) with a low-fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols diet (FODMAP) for IBS management.

Methods: One hundred twenty-one patients participated, with 70 assigned to the PD group and 51 to the FODMAP diet group.

Background/aims: Neuroendocrine cell hyperplasia is a non-neoplastic proliferation of enterochromaffin-like cells and is considered a premalignant lesion because of their potential to progress to neuroendocrine tumor. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the demographic and clinical features, laboratory, radiological and endoscopic findings, gastric biopsy histopathological features, follow-up frequency, and histopathological findings of patients diagnosed with gastric neuroendocrine cell hyperplasia as well as to investigate the factors that play a role in the development of neuroendocrine tumors on the basis of neuroendocrine cell hyperplasia.

Materials And Methods: The study has been conducted in 2 centers with 282 patients that were grouped as those with and without neuroendocrine tumor.

Article Synopsis
  • Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a leading gastrointestinal condition causing hospitalization, with a focus on evaluating its clinical features and adherence to international management guidelines.
  • The study analyzed 2,144 hospitalized AP patients in Turkey, finding that most cases were mild, with biliary causes being the most common, and an overall mortality rate of 1.6%.
  • Results indicate good predictive accuracy for severe cases using specific scoring systems, but show inconsistent adherence to treatment guidelines, particularly in administering prophylactic measures like NSAIDs and antibiotics.

Introduction: COVID-19 pandemic has led to an increased rate of intensive care unit (ICU) stays. Intermediate care units (IMCUs) are a useful resource for the management of patients with severe COVID-19 that do not require ICU admission. In this research, we aimed to determine survival outcomes and parameters predicting mortality in patients who have been admitted to IMCU.

Introduction: Standard triple therapy used to be the first-line treatment for (Hp) infection, but today it is a treatment regimen with a low eradication rate due to increasing resistance to the antibiotics included in the triple therapy.Aim: To compare the eradication rates of dual treatment regimens and quadruple treatment regimens.

Material And Methods: Patients over 18 years of age, who were indicated to undergo upper gastrointestinal system (GIS) endoscopy for any reason, had their upper gastrointestinal endoscopy performed, were detected to have Hp as a result of the histopathological evaluation of the biopsy material, and in whom eradication control was also performed by histopathological evaluation, were included in the study.

Aim: To determine which flexible spectral imaging color enhancement (FICE) channel best visualizes colon mucosa in ulcerative colitis (UC) and to compare FICE imaging with standard imaging.

Methods: The study enrolled patients with ulcerative colitis in remission who had inflammatory bowel disease for at least 8 years. All patients underwent screening colonoscopy.

Background: We aimed to evaluate the value of ischemia modified albumin (IMA) as a prognostic marker in acute pancreatitis (AP) patients, determine whether it is efficient in assessing the disease severity or not, and to estimate the correlation between IMA and the inflammatory markers, prognostic markers and scoring systems routinely used in clinical practice.

Methods: 100 adult patients (18 years and older) who have been hospitalized and evaluated with AP diagnosis in Tepecik Training and Research Hospital,, Department of Gastroenterology, between April 1, 2017 and April 1, 2018 have been enrolled in the study. Patients have been stratified disease etiology (biliary or non-biliary).

Background And Aim: This study is an evaluation of liver fibrosis measurements determined using transient elastography and aspartate aminotransferase-to-platelet ratio index (APRI) scores of patients diagnosed with chronic hepatitis C (CHC) who were treated with direct-acting antivirals (DAAs).

Materials And Methods: The liver fibrosis measurements recorded using transient elastography, APRI scores, and the biochemical data from before and after treatment of 40 patients with CHC who were treated with DAA were reviewed. Patients who received paritaprevir+ritonavir/ombitasvir+dasabuvir were included in Group 1 (n=20), and patients who received sofosbuvir+ledipasvir±ribavirin in Group 2 (n=20).

Aim: To evaluate the efficiency of the flexible spectral imaging colour enhancement (FICE) procedure added to high-resolution magnified endoscopy (HRME) for the evaluation of structural changes in gastric mucosa infected with ().

Material And Methods: A total of 104 patients were included in the study. First HRME and then HRME + FICE methods were used for the evaluation of the gastric mucosal structure, and examined areas were studied histopathologically.

Aim: To investigate the effects of nilotinib in a rat model of indomethacin-induced enterocolitis.

Methods: Twenty-one Wistar albino female rats obtained from Dokuz Eylul University Department of Laboratory Animal Science were divided into the following three groups: control (n = 7), indomethacin (n = 7) and nilotinib (n = 7). A volume of 0.

Background/aims: In this study, a tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) + hepatitis B immunoglobulin (HBIG) regimen was compared with lamivudine (LAM) + HBIG to determine the efficacy and safety of TDF in the prevention of hepatitis B virus (HBV) recurrence following liver transplantation (LT).

Materials And Methods: Thirty-six patients, 18 treated with TDF+HBIG (TDF group) and 18 with LAM+HBIG (LAM group), were evaluated retrospectively over a median 36-month follow-up in the Liver Transplantation Outpatient Unit of Dokuz Eylül University after having an LT. In the TDF group, TDF treatment was initiated in six patients due to resistance to LAM, in one patient due to relapse, in three patients to prevent relapse, and in eight patients due to de novo hepatitis.

Aim: To investigate the effects of nilotinib in a rat model of trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS)-induced colitis.

Methods: Twenty-one Wistar albino female rats obtained from Dokuz Eylul University Department of Laboratory Animal Science were categorized into a control (n = 7), TNBS (n = 7) and nilotinib group (n = 7). Saline was administered orally for 14 d to the control and the TNBS group.
