Background The selection of properly sized implants is essential to achieve a well-balanced knee and favorable clinical outcomes following Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA). There is limited evidence in the literature regarding the effectiveness of robotic-assisted technology (RA-TKA) without imaging in accurately predicting implant sizes. Our aim was to provide an evidence-based assessment of this technology's accuracy in selecting appropriate implant sizes during robotic-assisted, image-free TKA.

Aim For a successful total knee arthroplasty (TKA), bone cuts and soft tissue envelope must be balanced to ensure equal flexion and extension gaps. The study aims to assess if preoperative computed tomography (CT) scans and planning software reduce soft tissue release. Methodology A retrospective analysis was conducted for the first 100 consecutive robotic-assisted (RA) TKA (RA-TKA) patients between March 2022 and May 2023.

Article Synopsis
  • * Results showed that FTKA had significantly different femoral component rotation angles compared to C-TKA, suggesting that FTKA may offer better individual alignment for patients, as indicated by external rotation values.
  • * No complications like patellofemoral issues or premature loosening were reported in the FTKA group within one year, highlighting its potential clinical benefits over traditional methods.
