Owing to chitosan's incredible biocompatibility and biodegradability, bioactive molecules loaded delivery systems based on this polymer have been widely studied for improved health benefits. In the present work, quercetin and ferulic acid encapsulated core-shell structure chitosan microparticles crosslinked with tripolyphosphate and sodium alginate have been fabricated using unique three fluid nozzle (3-FN) spray drying technique. Fluorescent molecules incorporated into the microparticles aided observation of core-shell structure formation.

The principle objective of this study was to develop and characterize redox responsive polymeric nanoparticles (PNPs) as a stimuli responsive drug delivery system. The chitosan-cystamine-methoxy poly(ethylene glycol) (CH-SS-mPEG) copolymer was synthesized by conjugation of cystamine appended chitosan with carboxylic acid-terminated mPEG and characterized by FTIR, H NMR, XRD analysis and colorimetric assay. This copolymer could be formulated as 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) loaded PNPs and the characteristics of PNPs were evaluated.

A chitosan-hydrazone-mPEG (CH-Hz-mPEG) copolymer which is stable at extracellular pH and cleaves at slightly acidic intracellular pH was synthesized and characterized. Blank polymeric nanoparticles (B-PNPs) and prednisone-loaded polymeric nanoparticles (P-PNPs) were then formulated by dialysis/precipitation method. The cell-specific ligand, atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) was then conjugated to P-PNPs (ANP-P-PNPs) by a coupling reaction.

In this study, green synthesis of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) was achieved using the extract of eggplant as a reducing agent. Hyaluronic acid (HA) serves as a capping and targeting agent. Metformin (MET) was successfully loaded on HA capped AuNPs (H-AuNPs) and this formulation binds easily on the surface of the liver cancer cells.
