Background: Cuffless blood pressure (BP) devices are an emerging technology marketed as providing frequent, non-intrusive and reliable BP measurements. With the increasing interest in these devices, it is important for Hypertension Canada to provide a statement regarding the current place of cuffless BP measurements in hypertension management.
Methods: An overview of the technology in cuffless BP devices, the potential with this technology and the challenges related to determining the accuracy of these devices.
Background: Aortic stiffness is measured by carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (PWV), but it can also be estimated (ePWV) based on age and brachial mean arterial pressure (MAP). However, diabetes mellitus and/or chronic kidney disease (DM/CKD) may cause more pronounced damage to the arterial wall, changing the pressure and PWV relationship. Furthermore, sex and height could affect PWV through their relationship to the arterial diameter and path length.

Growing evidence suggests that milder and subclinical forms of primary aldosteronism are highly prevalent, yet their contribution to cardiovascular disease is not well characterized.
Methods: This prospective study included 1284 participants between the ages of 40 and 69 years from the randomly sampled population-based CARTaGENE cohort (Québec, Canada).
Rationale & Objective: The integrated home dialysis model proposes the initiation of kidney replacement therapy (KRT) with peritoneal dialysis (PD) and a timely transition to home hemodialysis (HHD) after PD ends. We compared the outcomes of patients transitioning from PD to HHD with those initiating KRT with HHD.
Study Design: Observational analysis of the Canadian Organ Replacement Register (CORR).

Cellular immune defects associated with suboptimal responses to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) mRNA vaccination in people receiving hemodialysis (HD) are poorly understood. Methods: We elicited the views of Canadian adults with kidney disease regarding their cannabis use. Participants were asked whether they would try cannabis for anxiety, depression, restless legs, itchiness, fatigue, chronic pain, decreased appetite, nausea/vomiting, sleep, cramps and other symptoms.
Importance: Women are at higher risk of cardiovascular events than men with similar blood pressure (BP). Whether this discrepancy in risk is associated with the accuracy of brachial cuff BP measurements is unknown.
Objectives: To examine the difference in brachial cuff BP accuracy in men and women compared with invasively measured aortic BP and to evaluate whether noninvasive central BP estimation varies with sex.
Physiologically, the aorta is less stiff than peripheral conductive arteries, creating an arterial stiffness gradient, protecting microcirculation from high pulsatile pressure. However, the pharmacological manipulation of arterial stiffness gradient has not been thoroughly investigated. We hypothesized that acute administration of nitroglycerin (NTG) may alter the arterial stiffness gradient through a more significant effect on the regional stiffness of medium-sized muscular arteries, as measured by pulse wave velocity (PWV).
