Postemergence control of grass weeds has become problematic due to the evolution of resistance to 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase, acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase), and acetolactate synthase-inhibiting herbicides. Herein we describe the invention and synthesis journey toward metproxybicyclone, the first commercial carbocyclic aryl-dione ACCase-inhibiting herbicide for the cost-effective management of grass weeds in dicotyledonous crops and in preplant burndown applications. Glasshouse and field experiments have shown that metproxybicyclone is safe for use on soybean, cotton, and sugar beet, among other crops.

The development and commercialisation of sunflower varieties tolerant to acetolactate synthase (ALS)-inhibiting herbicides some 20 years ago provided farmers with an alternative method for the cost-effective control of . In 2020, however, two independent sunflower broomrape populations from Drama (GR-DRA) and Orestiada (GR-ORE), Greece, were reported to be heavily infested with after application of the ALS-inhibiting herbicide imazamox. Here we have investigated the race of GR-DRA and GR-ORE and determined the basis of resistance to imazamox in the two Greek samples.

The curtaining effect is a common challenge in focused ion beam (FIB) surface preparation. This study investigates methods to reduce this effect during plasma FIB milling of Inconel 718 (nickel-based superalloy). Platinum deposition, silicon mask and XeF gas injection were explored as potential solutions.

Families of adults with an intellectual disability (ID) face post-parent transition when they can no longer assume their son's or daughter's care. This exploratory study aims to assess the perceptions of 12 mothers (Mage = 65.1; years, SD: 11) sharing a household with an adult with an ID (Mage = 36.

Background: Pinoxaden is a new cereal herbicide that provides outstanding levels of post-emergence activity against a broad spectrum of grass weed species for worldwide selective use in both wheat and barley.

Results: Factors influencing activity and tolerance to pinoxaden were in part linked to distinct structural parts of the active ingredient. Three complementary contributions that decisively impact upon the herbicidal potency against grasses were identified: a preferred 2,6-diethyl-4-methyl aromatic substitution pattern, a dione area suitable for proherbicide formation and beneficial adjuvant effects.

Unlabelled: Little information is available about the health risks associated with time spent in underground parking garages. The objective of this study was to determine whether it is possible to quantify the health risks associated with these garages without epidemiologic data on the subject. We followed the standard procedure for health risk assessment.

To evaluate the links between gastrointestinal disorders and sexual abuse, we asked 344 patients consulting in a specialized tertiary care university hospital or a gastroenterologist in private practice, if they had been sexually abused. Forty per cent of patients suffering from lower functional digestive disorder gave a history of having been victims of sexual abuse in contrast to only 10% of patients with organic diseases (P < 0.0003).

The purpose of this prospective study was to see if pretreatment anorectal motility can predict successful correction of faecal incontinence with biofeedback. Forty-seven consecutive children, aged 5 to 18 years, were treated. They had been treated for idiopathic constipation with faecal impaction, but had remained incontinent (n = 15), had been operated for congenital anorectal malformations of high (n = 19) or low (n = 2) type, or had a number of organic congenital pelvic abnormalities (n = 11).
