Prolonged use and/or high doses of AAS are linked to various harmful side effects, including mood changes, psychiatric disorders, voice deepening, clitoromegaly, menstrual irregularities, and cardiovascular complications, prompting medical societies to discourage their widespread use due to insufficient evidence supporting their safety and efficacy. Studies in female rodents have shown that AAS can lead to increased aggression, inflammation, reduced neuronal density, and negative impacts on the myocardium and blood vessels.

This review covers studies published between 2000 and 2023 and discusses the anti-prostate cancer mechanisms of the EOs from several plant species and their main bioactive compounds.

Background: Focal aware seizures (FASs) are relatively common and frequently pharmaco-resistant. If the seizure onset zone (SOZ) is in eloquent cortical areas, making resective surgery risky and inadvisable, deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the anterior nucleus of the thalamus, which is efficacious in less than half of the cases, has been the main alternative. New targets should be searched to address this deficiency.

Effect of three-dimensional collagen membrane culture and presence of cumulus cells on maturation of bovine oocytes.

Objective: The use of animals as experimental models has been proposed to improve the techniques applied in human reproduction clinics. This prospective and observational study evaluates the effects of the use of cumulus cells and collagen membrane on the maturation process of bovine oocytes.

The blood diagnosis of diabetes mellitus (DM) is highly accurate; however, it is an invasive, high-cost, and painful procedure. In this context, the combination of ATR-FTIR spectroscopy and machine learning techniques in other biological samples has been used as an alternative tool to develop a non-invasive, fast, inexpensive, and label-free diagnostic or screening platform for several diseases, including DM. In this study, we used the ATR-FTIR tool associated with linear discriminant analysis (LDA) and a support vector machine (SVM) classifier in order to identify changes in salivary components to be used as alternative biomarkers for the diagnosis of type 2 DM.

Antimicrobial metabolites produced by endophytic fungi associated with the leaves of .

Investigation of the endophytic fungi , , and MeOH fractions isolated from the leaves of , a medicinal species from the Brazilian Pantanal, led to the identification of five compounds, namely a new compound (1,8)-10,11-dihydroxy-5,5,8-trimethyl-4-oxocycloundeca-1,8-diene-1-carbaldehyde () and four known compounds: 5-methylmellein (), sclerone (), daldinone A (), and lasiodiplodin (). All compounds were identified using spectroscopic methods, and was corroborated with mass spectrometry, while the known compounds were compared with data in the literature. The relative configuration of compound was determined based on theoretical conformational studies as well as the experimental values between the hydroxymethyne hydrogens.
