Optimization Spiking Neural P System (OSNPS) is the first membrane computing model to directly derive an approximate solution of combinatorial problems with a specific reference to the 0/1 knapsack problem. OSNPS is composed of a family of parallel Spiking Neural P Systems (SNPS) that generate candidate solutions of the binary combinatorial problem and a Guider algorithm that adjusts the spiking probabilities of the neurons of the P systems. Although OSNPS is a pioneering structure in membrane computing optimization, its performance is competitive with that of modern and sophisticated metaheuristics for the knapsack problem only in low dimensional cases.

Poly(2-(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate-co-divinylbenzene) (poly(DEAEMA-co-DVB)) microspheres with mixed-mode weak anion-exchange (WAX) character were successfully fabricated for the first time via facile one-step Pickering emulsion polymerization. The obtained poly(DEAEMA-co-DVB) particles had good spherical geometry, uniform particle size in the range of 30-40 µm, a large specific surface area of 575 m/g, and a pore size range of 5-30 nm, according to the SEM and nitrogen adsorption-desorption results. Using these mixed-mode WAX microspheres as packing material, a reliable and robust analytical method based on solid phase extraction and high performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection (SPE-HPLC-UV) was developed for simultaneous determination of six strongly and weakly acidic nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs, niflumic acid, diflunisal, naproxen, ketoprofen, mefenamic acid, and diclofenac) in reservoir water.

Root growth is maintained by the continuous division of cells in the apical meristem. ROOT MERISTEM GROWTH FACTOR 1 (RGF1) is a critical peptide hormone regulating root stem cell niche maintenance. Previous studies discovered that five closely related leucine-rich repeat receptor-like protein kinases (LRR-RLKs), named RGF1 INSENSITIVES (RGIs) or RGF1 RECEPTORS (RGFRs), are able to perceive the RGF1 signal and redundantly control root stem cell niche maintenance.

Stress-induced premature senescence (SIPS) is characterized by the secretion of a variety of inflammatory cytokines, chemokines, and proteases, which are defined collectively as the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP). AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) activation contributes to SIPS prevention, and the impact of AMPK on SASP may be included, but the mechanisms governing this phenomenon have not elucidated. In this study, we showed that SIPS is accompanied by a dynamic fluctuation of NF-κB activation, which induces SASP production, whilst reinforcing and amplifying local STAT3 signalling and subsequently enhancing downstream senescence.

Microsatellites or simple sequence repeats (SSRs) are short tandem repeats of DNA widespread in genomes and transcriptomes of diverse organisms and are used in various genetic studies. Few software programs that mine SSRs can be further used to mine polymorphic SSRs, and these programs have poor portability, have slow computational speed, are highly dependent on other programs, and have low marker development rates. In this study, we develop an algorithm named Simple Sequence Repeat Molecular Marker Developer (SSRMMD), which uses improved regular expressions to rapidly and exhaustively mine perfect SSR loci from any size of assembled sequence.

The number of livestock per unit area is commonly used as a proxy of grazing pressure in both experimental studies and grassland management. However, this practice ignores the impact of landform heterogeneity on the spatial distribution of grazing pressure, leading to localized patches of degraded grassland. The spatial distribution of actual grazing density thus needs to be examined.

The mechanical and electrical properties of biomaterials are essential in cell function regulation during cell-biomaterial interaction. However, previous studies focused on probing cell regulation mechanisms under one type of stimulus, and a platform that enables the study of electromechanical coupling effects of a biomaterial on cells is still lacking. Here, we present an in-situ electromechanical testing and loading system to image live cells when co-cultured with electroactive biomaterials.

10-O-(N,N-dimethylaminoethyl)-ginkgolide B methanesulfonate (XQ-1H) is a new derivative of ginkgolide B and has previously been proven to exert neuroprotective effects on ischemic injury. However, it is not clear whether XQ-1H affects the cell survival and proliferation in oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation (OGD/R) damaged PC12 cells. Our results showed that OGD/R improved cell viability after 24 hr of posttreatment with XQ-1H (10 or 5 μM), inhibiting cell injury and apoptosis by upregulating the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor, nerve growth factor, and antiapoptotic B-cell lymphoma-extra large, while reducing proapoptotic cleaved caspase-3 protein.

Polyploidy, or whole genome duplication (WGD), is a driving evolutionary force across the tree of life and has played a pervasive role in the evolution of the plant kingdom. It is generally believed that a major genetic attribute contributing to the success of polyploidy is increased gene and genome dosage. The evolution of polyploid wheat has lent support to this scenario.

Establishing an effective displacement system for conventional water flooding development in low-permeability reservoirs is difficult, with generally low liquid and oil production and a worse water flooding effect. Imbibition oil recovery technology has received increasing attention from oil development workers because of its simple operation, low cost, and good oil increase effect. To explore the method and mechanism to further improve the effect of imbibition oil recovery, we study the imbibition and oil recovery effect and its influencing factors in a low-permeability reservoir in the Dagang Oilfield based on evaluation indexes of the adhesion work reduction factor, ratio of capillary force to gravity , regression analysis of the recovery rate of imbibition, proportional relationship with spontaneous imbibition, and dynamic imbibition effect in crack rocks.
