The screening effect was evaluated by means of critical micelle concentration (CMC) data using the pyrene 1:3 ratio method with aqueous solutions containing M-AOT (where M(+) = Li(+), Na(+), K(+), Rb(+) and Cs(+)) to form normal micelles, and by counterion binding constants, determined from plots of CMC versus counterion concentration. The order of the screening effect was found to be K(+) approximately = Rb(+) > Cs(+) > Na(+) > Li(+).

The detailed pathogenesis of the disease is unknown and no standard treatment regimen has been developed. EBV gene expression was analysed in peripheral blood samples collected from 24 patients with CAEBV infection.

Tip alpha has the unique function of inducing TNF-alpha production by gastric cells in vitro and is assumed to be related with the development of gastritis and gastric cancer. We investigated the effects of vaccination with Tip alpha against H.

Methods: The study group comprised 29 consecutive patients with AP (24 males, five females; mean age, 54.8 +/- 15.
Purpose: To evaluate visibility of the external carotid artery (ECA) and its branches using three-dimensional (3D) balanced steady-state free-precession (SSFP) MR angiography with a time-spatial labeling inversion pulse (Time-SLIP), and to provide an optimal value of the inversion time (TI).
Materials And Methods: Peripheral-pulse-wave-gated 3D balanced SSFP images were obtained in 20 healthy volunteers. Images with a Time-SLIP using four different TIs (600, 900, 1200, and 1500 ms) and without a Time-SLIP, referred to as sequence A to E, were acquired for each subject and compared for visibility scores of ECA system and relative signal intensity (SI) of ECA.
To diagnose Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated diseases and to explore the pathogenesis of EBV infection, not only must the EBV load be measured, but EBV-infected cells must also be identified. We established a novel flow cytometric in situ hybridization assay to detect EBV(+) suspension cells using a peptide nucleic acid probe specific for EBV-encoded small RNA (EBER). By enhancing fluorescence and photostability, we successfully stained EBER and surface antigens on the same cells.

Most NASH related HCCs are believed to develop from cirrhotic liver, but case reports about HCC arising from non-cirrhotic NASH have been accumulating recently. This study is designed to elucidate characteristics of NASH related HCC diagnosed with high accuracy by using surgically resected specimens that contain larger areas to validate than biopsy specimens.

Estradiol (E2), corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH), and hypothalamic neuronal histamine are anorexigenic substances within the hypothalamus. This study examined the interactions among E2, CRH, and histamine during the regulation of feeding behavior and obesity in rodents.

Summary Background Data: Because of the high incidence of local recurrence and liver metastasis, long-term outcomes for patients after resection of T3-pancreatic cancer are extremely poor.
Methods: During the period from 2002 to 2007, 38 patients with T3-pancreatic cancers consented to receive a combination of preoperative chemoradiation, surgery, and postoperative LPC.
The location and course of the mandibular canal and multiple mental foramina are important in dental implant insertion and any surgical procedures involving the mandible. The purpose of the present investigation was to assess buccal foramen presence in the mandible using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images. A total of 84 patients were enrolled in this investigation.

The salivary glands and the oral mucosa were included in the determination of effective doses of radiography in the new ICRP (International Commission on Radiological Protection) recommendations. These changes will likely result in an upward reassessment of the effective dose during oral and maxillofacial radiographic examination. We measured the dose received by many organs and calculated the effective doses using the guidelines in ICRP Publications 103 and 60.

In order to determine the level of neutralizing antibody in vaccinees, an easy and reliable method is needed. Based on the principle of immunochromatography, we developed a RAPINA (RAPId Neutralizing Antibody) test to determine the presence of neutralizing antibody in serum.

Better ways to prevent the cold ischemia-warm reperfusion (CI/WR) injury associated with liver transplantation are needed, and many investigations have focused on the molecular mechanisms of this injury. However, the mechanisms reported to date are controversial and no improvement in therapy has resulted. Here, using prolonged CI and orthotopic transplantation of rat liver grafts, we found that the CI/WR injury was closely associated with autophagy.
