Cardiovascular drug development requires synthesizing relevant literature about indications, mechanisms, biomarkers, and outcomes. This short study investigates the performance, cost, and prompt engineering trade-offs of 3 large language models accelerating the literature screening process for cardiovascular drug development applications.

Psychoactive medications are increasingly used to treat children and youth with mental health conditions, but individual variations in response highlight the need for precision medicine. Pharmacogenetic (PGx) testing is a key component of precision medicine. The number of commercial pharmacogenetic testing companies promoting PGx, with the promise of achieving individualized and effective treatment of mental health conditions, has grown exponentially in recent years.

Such behavior is said to be a major contributor to the large number of false and non-reproducible discoveries found in academic journals.

Methods: Retrospective study of 196 patients with suspected meningitis presenting to an emergency department between March 2013 and March 2023 and undergoing head CT prior to LP. UK Joint Specialist Society Guidelines (UK), European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) and Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) guidelines were evaluated by cross-referencing imaging criteria with clinical characteristics present at time of presentation.
Herniation of the ureters into the inguinal canal is a rare but recognized phenomenon. It may be noted incidentally on cross-sectional imaging, or when it presents with complications such as obstruction or infection. It is important to highlight the finding when present, as surgical intervention will be required in the majority of cases.

Impaired renal function is prevalent in patients with T2D. This Phase 1, open-label study evaluated the effect of renal impairment on the pharmacokinetics, safety, and tolerability of danuglipron (20 mg) in healthy participants with normal renal function (estimated glomerular filtration rate [eGFR] unnormalized for body surface area: ≥90 mL/min), in participants with T2D and normal renal function (eGFR ≥90 mL/min), and in participants with T2D and mild (eGFR 60-89 mL/min), moderate (eGFR 30-59 mL/min), or severe (eGFR <30 mL/min) renal impairment (N = 39).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFCoronaviruses have been the causative agent of three epidemics and pandemics in the past two decades, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. A broadly-neutralizing coronavirus therapeutic is desirable not only to prevent and treat COVID-19, but also to provide protection for high-risk populations against future emergent coronaviruses. As all coronaviruses use spike proteins on the viral surface to enter the host cells, and these spike proteins share sequence and structural homology, we set out to discover cross-reactive biologic agents targeting the spike protein to block viral entry.

Materials And Methods: This Phase 2a, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group study randomly assigned adults with type 2 diabetes (T2D) treated with metformin to placebo or danuglipron (low [5-mg] or high [10-mg] starting dose, with 1- or 2-week dose-escalation steps, to target doses of 80, 120 or 200 mg twice daily [BID]) and adults with obesity without diabetes to placebo or danuglipron 200 mg BID.
Results: Participants with T2D (n = 123, mean glycated haemoglobin [HbA1c] 8.
This is the protocol for a Campbell systematic review. The objectives are as follows: To identify methods used to assess the risk of outcome reporting bias (ORB) in studies included in recent Campbell systematic reviews of intervention effects. The review will answer the following questions: What proportion of recent Campbell reviews included assessment of ORB? How did recent reviews define levels of risk of ORB (what categories, labels, and definitions did they use)? To what extent and how did these reviews use study protocols as sources of data on ORB? To what extent and how did reviews document reasons for judgments about risk of ORB? To what extent and how did reviews assess the inter-rater reliability of ORB ratings? To what extent and how were issues of ORB considered in the review's abstract, plain language summary, and conclusions?

Objective: To investigate the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of multiple dose levels of the novel, oral, small molecule GLP-1R agonist danuglipron over 16 weeks.
Design, Setting, And Participants: A phase 2b, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group, 6-group randomized clinical trial with 16-week double-blind treatment period and 4-week follow-up was conducted from July 7, 2020, to July 7, 2021.

However, the complex links between catchment vegetation and the carbon food-base of estuarine systems are difficult to disern. We employed a multi-biomarker approach (stable isotope ratios - δC and δN, fatty acid trophic markers - FATMs and metabolomics - central carbon metabolism metabolites) to test links between estuarine vegetation and the food sources available to commercially important crabs and fish occurring within the river systems of the near-pristine eastern coastline of the Gulf of Carpentaria, Australia.

Several studies have reported a reduction of procedures performed by trainee endoscopists during the pandemic. The aim of this study was to assess the impact on colonoscopy training and quality in an academic centre throughout successive waves of the pandemic.
