The Ames room illusion is one of the best-known geometrical illusions but its geometrical properties are often misunderstood. This study discusses the differences in the geometrical properties between the original Ames room and what have been often referred to as "Ames rooms" in recent studies.

DalcA has been shown to raise FIX to clinically meaningful levels in adults with HB. This work aimed to support dosing regimen selection in adults and perform first-in-paediatric dose extrapolations using a model-based pharmacokinetic (PK) approach.

Much of the uncertainty that clouds our understanding of the world springs from the covert values and intentions held by other people. Thus, it is plausible that specialized mechanisms that compute learning signals under uncertainty of exclusively social origin operate in the brain. To test this hypothesis, we scoured academic databases for neuroimaging studies involving learning under uncertainty, and performed a meta-analysis of brain activation maps that compared learning in the face of social versus nonsocial uncertainty.

A popular experimental paradigm for testing these networks and their interactions within a single design is the Attentional Networks Test (ANT) (Fan et al., 2002).

This study was designed to assess the safety, tolerability, and efficacy of pamrevlumab (FG-3019), a fully recombinant human monoclonal antibody against CTGF, in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. The aim was to establish whether pamrevlumab could slow, stop, or reverse progression of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

Functional respiratory imaging (FRI) has potential to better characterize this disease. The aim of this study was to identify FRI parameters, which predict FVC decline in patients with IPF.

To study the effects of legal status, we use a sample of Central Asian migrant women who work in Russia and of their native counterparts who occupy the same positions on the labor market. Similar to the studies in the developed settings, we find that a temporary legal status is associated with an earnings penalty and that permanent legal status corrects this earning disparity.

Administration of the biguanides (15.0 mg/kg) to hypoglycemic rats promoted reduction of the free radical processes intensity in the studied tissues.

Using nationally representative survey data from Kyrgyzstan, we look at variations in levels and propensities of internal and temporary international migration and relate them to changes in the economic and political environment in that Central Asian nation in the first decade of the century. A multinomial event history model predicting yearly risks of both types of migration detects no clear association of internal migration risks with episodes of heightened political instability but shows a decrease in those risks in response to the strongest economic shock of the observation period.

This study was designed to evaluate the tolerability of the IPF treatment pirfenidone in SSc-ILD. The known gastrointestinal, skin, and liver adverse events (AE) of pirfenidone are of importance given the involvement of these organs in SSc.

We sought to confirm the beneficial effect of pirfenidone on disease progression in such patients.
Methods: In this phase 3 study, we randomly assigned 555 patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis to receive either oral pirfenidone (2403 mg per day) or placebo for 52 weeks.
In patients with haemophilia, repeated bleeding events result in significant comorbid conditions that can degrade health-related quality of life. Clinician-reported symptom measures are available for use in patients with haemophilia A or B; however, there has not been a validated patient-reported symptom evaluation instrument available for haemophilia to date. The objective of this study was to develop and evaluate a self-report instrument, the HAEMO-SYM, for measuring symptom severity in patients with haemophilia.

Continuous infusion (CI) during surgery has potential benefits by providing steady administration of replacement factor to the patient, avoiding high peaks and low troughs. We tested the stability of rFVIII-FS under CI conditions and conducted a single-centre, open-label, phase III study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of CI using rFVIII-FS in haemophilia A patients undergoing surgery.

The purpose of this study was to develop and validate a haemophilia-specific health-related quality of life questionnaire for adults (HAEMO-QoL-A). Subjects with varying severities of haemophilia completed the HAEMO-QoL-A at baseline and 4 weeks.

Long-term safety and efficacy data were available for 212 patients with severe haemophilia A, including 13 previously untreated patients (PUPs) and 12 patients with 1-19 exposure days (EDs). Patients accumulated a mean (+/- SD) of 187 (121) EDs to rFVIII-FS and received a total of 39,627 infusions, mainly for prophylaxis and for the treatment of 4,283 spontaneous or trauma-related bleeds during an average observation time of 710 (136) days.

Objectives: To investigate the safety, tolerability, bioavailability, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of a single administration of BAY 79-4980 compared with standard rFVIII-FS in patients with severe hemophilia A.
Methods: This randomized, double-blind study consisted of two crossover substudies comparing two doses of liposomal rFVIII-FS with standard rFVIII-FS.
The safety and efficacy of a full-length sucrose-formulated recombinant factor VIII product (rFVIII-FS; Kogenate FS; Kogenate Bayer) was evaluated in previously untreated (PUPs) and minimally treated (MTP) patients with severe haemophilia A (FVIII <2%). Patients (37 PUPs; 24 MTPs) aged 0.1-25.

The primary aim of the study was to ascertain the level of orthopaedic complications in the group, the effects that these complications have on quality of life, and the medical resources used on these patients. The secondary aim was to relate their current orthopaedic state to the type of treatment received before the study.
