Objectives: Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) can be increased in a benign condition known as benign-transient hyperphosphatasemia (BTH). We aimed to evaluate the demographic, and clinical characteristics of infants and children with BTH.
Methods: In our retrospective study, infants and children diagnosed with BTH between September 2019 and September 2023 were included.
In 2002, heterozygous suppressor of fused variants (SUFU) in the germline were described to have a tumor suppressor role in the development of pediatric medulloblastoma (MB). Other neoplasms associated with pathologic germline SUFU variants have also been described among patients with basal cell nevus syndrome (BCNS; BCNS is also known as Gorlin syndrome, nevoid basal cell carcinoma [BCC] syndrome or Gorlin-Goltz syndrome; OMIM 109400), an autosomal-dominant cancer predisposition syndrome. The phenotype of patients with germline SUFU variants is very poorly characterized due to a paucity of large studies with long-term follow-up.

The Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) model is a QI tool that encourages ongoing evaluation of clinical care, thus improving various aspects of patient care. Ascertaining pediatric patient priorities for a pain questionnaire in the post-acute, or transitional pain, setting is important to guide clinical care since active engagement with the population of interest can optimize uptake.

We also assessed whether age at first index joint bleed, blood group, FVIII gene abnormality variant, factor VIII trough level, first-year bleeding rate and adherence to the prescribed prophylaxis regimen significantly predicted joint damage trajectory, and thus class membership.
Methods: Using data collected prospectively as part of the Canadian Hemophilia Primary Prophylaxis Study (CHPS), we implemented a latent class growth mixture model technique to determine how many joint damage classes existed within the cohort.
The use of auxins to improve the vase life of cut flowers is very limited. Previous studies demonstrated that a pulse treatment of Red Cestrum ( Schlecht.) cut flowers with 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) significantly reduced floret bud abscission, whereas 1-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) was ineffective.

Despite numerous studies, the effect of smoking on lower urinary tract functions, have not been yet studied in detail. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of smoking addiction on lower urinary tract and sexual functions on the basis of respiratory functions.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAppendiceal diverticulitis is a rare pathologic entity that is difficult to diagnose on clinical grounds because of an indolent course and atypical presenting symptoms. However, the characteristic computed tomographic (CT) features should suggest the correct diagnosis, and an appendectomy should be performed. Despite its rarity, radiologists should be aware of this condition and the findings on CT because of the higher risk of perforation than in appendicitis and the potential association with appendiceal neoplasms.

The aim of the present study was to examine if the differential effect of these auxins on floret abscission is reflected in the expression of Aux/IAA genes in the floret abscission zone (AZ).
Methods: cDNAs were isolated by PCR-based cloning from the floret AZ of auxin-treated cut flowers.
Purpose: To review the treatment efficacy and to assess the complications encountered in patients with single renal or ureteral calculi managed with a new-generation SWL machine, the Siemens Lithostar Modularis Uro-Plus.
Patients And Methods: The stone location, size, minimum and maximum energy used, localization technique, number of shockwaves, fluoroscopy time, and number of sessions were reviewed for 2670 patients. The medical records were consulted to identify post-SWL secondary treatments in order to calculate the efficacy quotient (EQ).
Arabidopsis thaliana CEL1 protein was detected in young expanding tissues. Immunostaining revealed that CEL1 accumulated mostly in xylem cells. The primary, as well as the secondary xylem showed considerable CEL1 staining.

It consists as several isoforms, each made of two domains of approximately 140 amino-acids, both having a carbohydrate recognition domain (CRD). These domains are joined by a 'link peptide' of variable length.

Immunohistochemical reactions were carried out with a polyclonal anti-galectin-8 antibody and histological slides from tissues derived from the files of the Laboratory of Anatomopathology of University Erasmus Hospital, Brussels. Formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissues of 45 normal cases as well as 41 benign and 114 malignant tumors were studied.

The method is based on competition between unlabeled cDNA from the mRNA of one sample and labeled cDNA from another sample. By manipulating the amount of competing unlabeled cDNA, background signals from the nonregulated genes can be increased or reduced, enabling the signals from differentially regulated genes to be contrasted and to be identified in a quantitative manner.

ATP stimulated citrate uptake in the presence or in the absence of a Delta mu H+. Energization of the vesicles only by an artificial K+ gradient (establishing an inside-positive Delta psi) also resulted in citrate uptake as was the case of a Delta pH dominated Delta mu H+.

Ethylene pretreatment enhanced the catabolism of [(14)C]IAA to indole-3-carboxylic acid (ICA), which accumulated as glucose esters (ICGIu). Increased formation of ICGIu by ethylene was accompanied by a concomitant decrease in IAAsp formation.

The predicted amino acid sequence for the quail protamine contains the N-terminal tetrapeptide ARYR present in the N-terminal region of the mammalian protamines as well as several conserved motifs and arginine clusters. In addition the size of the quail protamine (56 amino acids) is closer to that of mammals (50 amino acids) than that of the chicken (61 amino acids).
