Aim: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of OM-85 in the treatment of uncomplicated acute respiratory infections (ARI) in adults.

Materials And Methods: A double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicenter, randomized trial included 556 patients (18-60 years old) with mild and moderate ARI and negative results of polymerase chain reaction analysis for SARS-CoV-2 RNA and rapid test for influenza A and B viruses. Patients were randomized into two groups: in the first group (278), patients received OM-85 (Broncho-munal) one capsule 7 mg/day for 10 days, while the second group (278) was treated with placebo in the same regimen.

Reconstructive surgery for urethral defects employing tissue-engineered scaffolds represents an alternative treatment for urethroplasty. The aim of this study was to compare the therapeutic efficacy of the bilayer poly-D,L-lactide/poly-ε-caprolactone (PL-PC) scaffold seeded with allogenic mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) for urethra reconstruction in a rabbit model with conventional urethroplasty employing an autologous buccal mucosa graft (BG). Objectives: This multicenter, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial investigated the effect of a fermented milk product containing the Lactobacillus casei National Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures (CNCM) I-1518 strain on respiratory and gastrointestinal common infectious diseases (CIDs) in children attending day-care centers in Russia.

Methods: Children ages 3 to 6 years received 100 g of a fermented milk product (n = 300) or a control product (n = 299) twice daily for 3 months, followed by a 1-month observation period. The primary outcome was the incidence of CIDs during the product consumption period.

This study describes the development and cell culture application of nanometer thick photocrosslinkable thermoresponsive polymer films prepared by physical adsorption. Two thermoresponsive polymers, poly(N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAm)-co-acrylamidebenzophenone (AcBzPh)) and poly(NIPAm-co-AcBzPh-co-N-tertbutylacrylamide) are investigated. We tested prostatic secretions from men with and without prostate cancer (13 cases and 13 matched controls) or prostatitis (18 cases and 18 matched controls) with metagenomic sequencing. A large number (>200) of viral reads was only detected among four prostate cancer cases (1 patient each positive for Merkel cell polyomavirus, JC polyomavirus and Human Papillomavirus types 89 or 40, respectively). Lower numbers of reads from a large variety of viruses were detected in all patient groups.

This communication outlines the advances made in the development of thermoresponsive substrates for human mesenchymal stem cell (hMSC) expansion and subsequent controlled specific and multilineage differentiation from a previous study performed by this group. Previously, the development of an inexpensive and technically accessible method for hMSC expansion and harvesting was reported, using the solvent casting deposition method and thermoresponsive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide). Here, the logical continuation of this work is reported with the multipassage expansion of hMSCs with phenotypic maintenance followed by induced adipogenic, osteogenic, and chondrogenic differentiation.

Materials And Methods: By using reagent kits produced by Central Research Institute of Epidemiology for the detection of primary causative agents of influenza and ARVI 129 children and 94 adult patients monitored in an outpatient setting as well as 103 children hospitalized due to ARI were examined.

Results: Etiological structure of ARVI was studied; proportion of influenza and other actual causative agents of ARVI in monthly dynamics were established.

A series of poly-(N-isopropyl acrylamide)-based copolymers were developed with a view to biomedical applications, specifically cell cultivation and recovery. Ethylpyrrolidone methacrylate (EPM), the monomer of poly-(ethylpyrrolidone methacrylate) (pEPM), which is itself thermoresponsive, was copolymerized with N-isopropylacrylamide in varying ratios to create this novel thermoresponsive copolymer series. Characterization indicated a moderate increase of copolymer lower critical solution temperature with increasing EPM content.

Locally dropping the temperature in vivo is the main obstacle to the clinical use of a thermoresponsive drug delivery system. In this paper, a Peltier electronic element is incorporated with a thermoresponsive thin film based drug delivery system to form a new drug delivery device which can regulate the release of rhodamine B in a water environment at 37 °C. Various current signals are used to control the temperature of the cold side of the Peltier device and the volume of water on top of the Peltier device affects the change in temperature.
