In an era where chemical synthesis of nanomaterial is accounting for the generation of toxic wastes, leading to nanotoxicity, the present work focuses on the extraction of carbon nanodots from available natural sources such as turmeric smoke. The extracted carbon nanodots were characterized and their physical and chemical attributes were confirmed. Pain is a complex experience that remains largely unexplored in naturalistic contexts, hindering our understanding of its neurobehavioral representation in ecologically valid settings. To address this, we employed a multimodal, data-driven approach integrating intracranial electroencephalography, pain self-reports, and facial expression quantification to characterize the neural and behavioral correlates of naturalistic acute pain in twelve epilepsy patients undergoing continuous monitoring with neural and audiovisual recordings. High self-reported pain states were associated with elevated blood pressure, increased pain medication use, and distinct facial muscle activations.

Methylglyoxal (MG), a highly reactive by-product of glycolysis, is involved in the formation of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs). Elevated levels of MG have been correlated with micro-and macro-angiopathic complications in diabetes, including neuropathy, kidney disease, retinopathy, and cardiovascular disease. Extrapolating data from early DCD (donation after circulatory death) kidney transplantation, pancreas transplants from DCD grafts were feared to have worse metabolic outcomes.
