The surface chemistry of the Fischer-Tropsch catalytic reaction over Co has still several unknows. Here, we report an in-situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy study of Co and Co( ), and in-situ high energy surface X-ray diffraction of Co during the Fischer-Tropsch reaction at 0.15 bar - 1 bar and 406 K - 548 K in a H/CO gas mixture.

Objectives: In cancer studies, assessment of patients' physical function can provide insight into cancer-related symptoms and the side effects of treatment. Physical function can be assessed using patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), which may or may not include a recall period-the amount of time the questionnaire asks the respondent to think back to answer the questions. More understanding is needed about how patients interpret and respond to items posed with different recall periods, and which recall period they actually use.

The LITT Fit in neuro-oncology: indications, imaging, and adjunctive therapies.

Purpose: There is an unmet need for new treatments for many central nervous system tumors. An expanding body of research supports the use of laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT) in the treatment of gliomas, recurrent brain metastases, and radiation necrosis.

Methods: In this review, we highlight emerging indications for LITT, including its use adjacent to eloquent structures, in the posterior fossa, and for meningioma and tumors of the vertebral column.

Despite high total knee arthroplasty (TKA) survivorship after 10 years (92%-99%), a gap persists where patient satisfaction lags clinical success. Additionally, while cobalt chrome molybdenum (CoCrMo) use decreases in primary total hip arthroplasty, the alloy continues to be widely used in TKA femoral components. In vivo, CoCrMo degradation may be associated with adverse local tissue reactions (ALTR) and compared with the hip, the damage mechanisms that may release metal in the knee and the potential biological effects remain poorly understood.

We previously reported that the homoleptic near-linear Sm complex [Sm{N(SiPr)}] () is oxidized by the 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidinyl-1-oxy (TEMPO) radical to give the heteroleptic, approximately trigonal planar Sm complex, [Sm{N(SiPr)}(TEMPO)] (). Here, we report the synthesis of homologous [Ln{N(SiPr)}(TEMPO)] (; Ln = Tm, Yb) complexes by the oxidation of the parent [Ln{N(SiPr)}] (; Ln = Tm, Yb) with TEMPO; complexes all contain TEMPO anions.

Tin Silver Alloy as a Biomaterial: Corrosion Characteristics and Cellular Behavior.

Tin-silver (Sn-Ag) has been used as a permanently implanted biomaterial within the Essure female sterilization device and in dental amalgams; however, little data exist for Sn-Ag's corrosion characteristics and/or cellular interactions. In this study, to assess its suitability as a degradable metallic biomaterial, 95-5 wt% Sn-Ag solder was subjected to corrosion testing including open circuit potential (OCP), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and anodic potentiodynamic polarization in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) and cell culture media (with serum proteins) at room temperature (25°C) and body temperature (37°C). Techno-economic analyses offer insights into how industrial cultivated meat (CM) production could achieve price parity with conventional meat. These analyses use scaling practices, data and facility designs for related bioprocessing fields, including large (≥20,000 l) stirred tank bioreactors and suspension-tolerant, continuously available cell lines. This approach is inconsistent with most primary CM literature, which parallels bench-scale tissue engineering.

Comparison of commercial targeted amplicon sequencing assays for human remains identification casework.

Targeted amplicon sequencing (TAS) facilitates the genotyping of forensically informative single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) using massively parallel sequencing (MPS). For human remains identification, where any extracted DNA is likely to be degraded, TAS may succeed when short tandem repeat (STR) profiling using capillary electrophoresis fails. Further, as well as yielding identity information, SNPs can provide information about ancestry, phenotype, kinship and paternal lineage (Y chromosome haplotypes).

Clinical and radiographic outcomes after index anterior cervical discectomy and fusion with interbody spacer with integrated anchor fixation: a single-surgeon case study.

Background: The use of plate-cage systems in anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) has been shown to produce fusion and good clinical outcomes though it has been associated with complications such as dysphagia at higher rates than stand-alone implant devices. This study aimed to assess the incidence of dysphagia and radiographic outcomes in adult patients who have undergone ACDF with interbody spacer with integrated anchor fixation (ISa).

Methods: Patients who underwent index ACDF with a commercially available ISa by a fellowship-trained spine surgeon between January 2018 and December 2021 were retrospectively included.

Effects of Gender and Country of Training on Perceived Access to Opportunities for Neurosurgical Research and Gender-Concordant Mentorship.

Background: The current neurosurgical workforce is not large enough to address the significant burden of neurosurgical disease worldwide, and women are under-represented in this surgical specialty. However, trainee opportunities are particularly scarce in lower- and middle-income countries, where the burden of neurosurgical disease is high. Thus, the primary aim of this study was to assess the effects of gender and country on perceived access to neurosurgical research and mentorship opportunities.
