Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) plays a crucial role in numerous cellular processes, yet its impact on human behavior remains underexplored. The current paper proposes a novel covariance structure model with seven parameters to specifically isolate and quantify mtDNA effects on human behavior. This approach uses extended pedigrees to obtain estimates of mtDNA variance while controlling for other genetic and environmental influences.

The early addition of a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor to standard treatment may delay or prevent progressive adverse remodelling in these patients.
Methods And Results: We performed a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicentre trial using cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), in patients with left ventricular systolic dysfunction following MI.
Safe containment of infectious poliovirus (PV) within Poliovirus-Essential Facilities (PEFs) will require the implementation of reliable PV-inactivation approaches for decontaminating work surfaces. Such approaches should be demonstrated empirically to display adequate efficacy at the use temperature, and the contact times required should be characterized to ensure efficacy. Such efficacy is judged by the ability of the inactivation approach to completely inactivate any PV deposited, with the demonstrated total log reduction in PV titer being as high as empirically achievable.

Objective: We sought to establish core knowledge topics and skills that are important to teach pediatric residents using simulation-based medical education (SBME).
Methods: We conducted a modified Delphi process with experts in pediatric SBME. Content items were adapted from the American Board of Pediatrics certifying exam content and curricular components from pediatric entrustable professional activities (EPAs).
Biallelic null or hypomorphic variants in JAK3 cause SCID and less frequently Omenn syndrome. We investigated homozygous hypomorphic JAK3 mutations in two patients, and expression and function of a novel JAK3 variant in Omenn syndrome. Immunophenotyping of PBMC from the patient with the novel JAK3 variant was undertaken, by flow cytometry and Phosflow after stimulation with IL-2, IL-7, and IL-15.

Due to reduced tissue perfusion, patients usually experience pain at rest and atrophic changes correlated to the extent of the compromised perfusion. Unfortunately, the prognosis remains unsatisfactory with 30% of patients requiring major amputation and a mortality rate of 25% within 1 year.

However, incorporating undergraduates into research can be challenging for faculty mentors. In this article, we provide strategies for successfully integrating undergraduates into behavior genetics research based on our experiences mentoring undergraduates in our lab.

If functional testing is not performed INOCA may pass undetected. Stress perfusion cardiovascular MRI (CMR) quantifies myocardial blood flow (MBF) but the clinical utility of stress CMR in the management of patients with suspected angina with no obstructive coronary arteries (ANOCA) is uncertain.

Traditional treatment options include repair and revision to a constrained prosthesis. We present a case of an 80-year-old man who opted for MCL reconstruction in the setting of previous TKA due to late MCL injury from a skiing accident.

Pediatric subspecialty fellows frequently perform TMC duties, but tools assessing competency are lacking. Our objective was to develop content validity for the items required to assess pediatric subspecialty fellows' TMC skills.

Background: Twenty percent to 40% of patients are affected by angina after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), which is associated with anxiety, depression, impaired physical function, and reduced quality of life. Understanding patient and procedural factors associated with post-PCI angina may inform alternative approaches to treatment.
Methods: Two hundred thirty patients undergoing PCI completed the Seattle Angina Questionnaire (SAQ-7) and European quality of life-5 dimension-5 level (EQ-5D-5L) questionnaires at baseline and 3 months post-PCI.
Objective: Determine whether rurality or public insurance status is associated with greater 30-day readmission after tracheostomy in pediatric patients.
Study Design: Retrospective cohort.
Setting: Pediatric Health Information System (PHIS) Database.
Background: The rate of using robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty (RA-TKA) has increased markedly. Understanding how patients view the role of robotics during total knee arthroplasty (TKA) informs shared decision making and facilitate efforts to appropriately educate patients regarding the risks and benefits of robotic assistance.
Methods: A self-administered questionnaire was completed by 440 potential TKA patients at the time of their surgery scheduling.
Groundwater resources are one of the essential aspects of achieving self-sufficiency in a country's agricultural production, poverty alleviation, and socioeconomic development, particularly in agricultural heritage management and practices. In the Barind Tract in Bangladesh, groundwater levels have steadily declined due to growing irrigation demand. Surface water sources become scarce during the dry season, and groundwater levels fall to levels that make minimum cultivation challenging.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to assess the anatomical appropriateness of a three-dimensional (3D) printed pediatric middle ear model with a replaceable middle ear unit as an endoscopic ear surgery (EES) simulator.
Methods: Single-blinded, prospective, proof-of-concept study conducted in a simulation operative suite. A simulator was developed through segmentation of source images and multi-material 3D printing.

Purpose Of Review: This review summarizes the diverse uses of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in critically ill children with congenital and acquired heart disease. Diagnostic utility and practicality of POCUS is reviewed. Importantly, the role of POCUS in the medical management of children in the cardiac intensive care unit is highlighted.

To standardize training and decrease complications, we developed a simulation-based ultrasound-guided CVC placement training program for pediatric critical care providers.
Methods: We implemented our CVC placement training program with several groups of learners, including pediatric critical care medicine (PCCM) fellows, pediatric emergency medicine fellows, and PCCM advanced practice providers.
Background The objective of the GNOCCI (Glasgow Natural History Study of Covered Stent Coronary Interventions) Study was to report the incidence and outcomes of coronary artery perforations over an 18-year period at a single, high-volume percutaneous coronary intervention center. We considered both the temporal trends and long-term outcomes of covered stent deployment. Methods and Results We evaluated procedural and long-term clinical outcomes following coronary perforation in a cohort of 43,343 consecutive percutaneous coronary intervention procedures.

Few POCUS training resources exist for pediatric residents, and little is known about POCUS training in pediatric residencies. We aim to describe pediatric residency leadership perspectives regarding the value of POCUS and to elucidate the current state of POCUS training in pediatric residency programs.
