Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) plays a crucial role in numerous cellular processes, yet its impact on human behavior remains underexplored. The current paper proposes a novel covariance structure model with seven parameters to specifically isolate and quantify mtDNA effects on human behavior. This approach uses extended pedigrees to obtain estimates of mtDNA variance while controlling for other genetic and environmental influences.

Safe containment of infectious poliovirus (PV) within Poliovirus-Essential Facilities (PEFs) will require the implementation of reliable PV-inactivation approaches for decontaminating work surfaces. Such approaches should be demonstrated empirically to display adequate efficacy at the use temperature, and the contact times required should be characterized to ensure efficacy. Such efficacy is judged by the ability of the inactivation approach to completely inactivate any PV deposited, with the demonstrated total log reduction in PV titer being as high as empirically achievable.

Biallelic null or hypomorphic variants in JAK3 cause SCID and less frequently Omenn syndrome. Below-the-knee (infrapopliteal) atherosclerotic disease, which presents as chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI) in nearly 50% of patients, represents a treatment challenge when it comes to the endovascular intervention arm of management. Due to reduced tissue perfusion, patients usually experience pain at rest and atrophic changes correlated to the extent of the compromised perfusion.
