Impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on private hospitals in Brazil.

Unlabelled: The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted hospital performance. To assess its effects on hospital indicators, we studied a sample of over 100 facilities. These facilities are members of a private hospital association, considered quality institutions with higher-tier socioeconomic patients, and are mostly financed by private insurers.

Access to emergency surgical treatment for congenital heart diseases in the state of São Paulo.

Objective: To analyze access to surgical care for congenital heart diseases in public specialized centers in the state of São Paulo before and during the COVID-19 pandemic and availability of surgical care in specialized hospitals, to identify bottlenecks in the care path for neonatal cardiac surgery.

Methods: This study included 1,437 children, under one year old, with congenital heart disease and formal referral to heart surgery between February 1, 2019, and February 28, 2021. Quantitative data analysis was performed using t-tests or the Mann-Whitney test.

Reference values for blood count laboratory tests in the Brazilian adult population, National Health Survey.

Objective: To describe reference values for blood counts obtained from laboratory tests in the Brazilian adult population according to laboratory results from the National Health Survey (Pesquisa Nacional de Saúde - PNS), by gender, age group and skin color.

Methods: The initial sample consisted of 8,952 adults. To determine the reference values, individuals with prior diseases and outliers were excluded.

[Trends in hospital care].

This paper analyses trends in the delivery of hospital services in Brazil, considering the setting, the current situation and its challenges, examining what still remains to be done. The variables studied for the analysis of the setting are: demography, epidemiological profile, human resources, technology, medicalization, costs, review of the role of the citizen, legislation, equity, hospital-centricity and regionalization, care fractioning and bed availability. The Brazilian setting was studied through the supplementary healthcare model, financing and the healthcare area production chain.
