Decibel Decisions: The Concept of Intracranial Aneurysm Surgery With a Decibel Meter on Two Surgical Cases.

The present cases were used to investigate the reliability of the intraoperative decibel meter as an objective method of clipping efficiency in cerebral aneurysm surgery and to assess the impact of this method on the surgical procedure itself. Different methodologies have been developed and applied to directly or indirectly evaluate the placement of a clip, for example, intraoperative digital subtraction angiography (DSA), intraoperative micro-Doppler ultrasonography, and, more recently, indocyanine green (ICG). We included two patients with a previously non-treated unruptured brain aneurysm.

A 38-year-old man presented with fever, cough, and jaundice. Four days before, he had started taking amoxicillin/clavulanic acid. He subsequently developed a morbilliform rash, and, according to clinical features and blood analyses, a diagnosis of mononucleosis with Epstein-Barr virus-associated antibiotic-induced exanthema and secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis was made.

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a public health problem and a risk of developing cardiometabolic and neurodegenerative diseases. The biochemical-inflammatory impairment in brain areas related to learning and memory has not been differentiated between MetS models. We aimed to compare the effect of the MetS generated by consuming high-fat (HFD) or -carbohydrate diets (HCD) on the hippocampus and frontal cortex, related to astrocyte-neuron metabolism and neuroinflammation origin.

The Sterile Insect Technique (SIT), which consists in the mass-production, irradiation, and release of insects in affected areas is currently used for their control. The appropriate time for irradiation, one to two days before adult emergence, is determined through the color of the eyes, which varies according to the physiological age of pupae.

Three Cases of Clear Cell Hidradenoma With "Benign" Lymph Node Involvement.

The malignant counterpart of cutaneous clear cell hidradenoma (CCH), hidradenocarcinoma, is an aggressive neoplasm that may have a fatal outcome. However, some cases of benign looking CCH with isolated lymph node involvement and excellent prognosis have been described. "CCH-like neoplasm of uncertain malignant potential" or "atypical hidradenoma" have been proposed as designations for these lesions.

Wireless Sensing of Concrete Setting Process.

An RFID-based wireless system to measure the evolution of the setting process of cement-based materials is presented in this paper. The system consists of a wireless RFID temperature sensor that works embedded in concrete, and an external RFID reader that communicates with the embedded sensor to extract the temperature measurement conducted by the embedded sensor. Temperature time evolution is a well known proxy to monitor the setting process of concrete.

Anastrepha ludens (Loew) is one of the most important pests of citrus and mango crops in Mexico. A method used to control this pest is the sterile insect technique, which consists in the mass production, irradiation, and release of insects in affected areas. The production of insects begins with the establishment of colonies to produce eggs, which must be highly fertile to ensure an adequate production of larvae.

Referral of Patients to Dermatology and Teledermatology Consultations in Spain. DIADERM Study.

Background And Objectives: Understanding the origin and referral routes of patients seen in teledermatology and in-person dermatology consultations in Spain is of interest from the perspective of health care management. The objective of this study was to describe the referral routes and the frequency and characteristics of teledermatology consultations in Spain.

Material And Methods: We performed a descriptive cross-sectional study of data collected over 6 days from the DIADERM study sample, which included the outpatients diagnosed by 80 Spanish dermatologists, selected by means of stratified random sampling.

Permanent epicardial pacing wires are sometimes left in place and can lead to long-term complications. We report on a case of a granulomatous reaction with a cutaneous fistula secondary to the retained epicardial pacing wires in a child and highlight the relevance of sonography as an additional tool in the diagnosis and management of dermatologic conditions.

Difficulties Coding Dermatological Disorders Using the ICD-10: The DIADERM Study.

Background And Objectives: The International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Tenth Revision (ICD-10) has some shortcomings when it comes to coding certain dermatological disorders. To overcome these shortcomings, a compatible version of the ICD-10 specifically adapted to dermatology was produced in Spain in 1999. The recent DIADERM study recorded 10 999 dermatological diagnoses using a representative sample of dermatologists working at outpatient clinics in Spain.

Efficacy and safety of wet wrap therapy for patients with atopic dermatitis: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Wet wrap therapy (WWT) consists of topical steroids administered under a layer of wet cotton bandages or garments. Several trials with WWT have reported promising results in atopic dermatitis (AD). However, no systematic review and meta-analysis on its efficacy and safety has been published.

Antipredator behavior of the new mass-reared unisexual strain of the Mexican Fruit Fly.

Tephritid pests controlled through the sterile insect technique (SIT) are mass-reared and subsequently released in affected areas. Several quality parameters are currently used to test adults, but none take into account interactions with a predator. When sterile males are released in the field, they will need to avoid predators until they reach sexual maturity and survive long enough to mate with wild females.

Efficacy of botulinum toxin in pachyonychia congenita type 1: report of two new cases.

Pachyonychia congenita (PC) is a rare genodermatosis caused by a mutation in keratin genes, which can lead to hypertrophic nail dystrophy and focal palmoplantar keratoderma (predominantly plantar), amongst other manifestations. Painful blisters and callosities, sometimes exacerbated by hyperhidrosis, are major issues that can have a significant impact on patient quality of life. Many alternative treatments for this condition have been applied with variable and partial clinical response, but a definitive cure for this disease has yet to be discovered.

Quality of life assessment in ocular toxoplasmosis in a Colombian population.

Objective: To assess the quality of life in patients with ocular toxoplasmosis.

Methods: The participants were 29 otherwise healthy patients with retinochoroidal lesions consistent with Toxoplasma infection. The controls were 29 gender and age-matched people with normal visual function who came from the same socioeconomic and educational background as the participants.
